I used redsn0w on my 4th gen iTouch but my software on my iTouch is 4.3.1 . Redsn0w is the best jailbreak software i use.

I strongly suggest getting a version of it and downloading a custom firmware.

Experience:
iPhone 3G - 4.2.1
iTouch 4th Gen - 4.3.1

Greenposi0n is not S**t it is one of the best jailbreaking programs

Step 1: Connect your iPhone via USB to your computer and click on Jailbreak as seen in the screenshot below.

Step 2: Now follow the following onscreen instructions to enter DFU mode:

Step 3: GreenPois0n will now start Jailbreaking your iOS device untethered on 4.2.1.

Step 4: Your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch should now be successfully jailbroken on iOS 4.2.1. Now start Loader found on the homescreen and install Cydia.
