The Ultimate Guide on Pandora:
A Massive Arsenal
It is no doubt that the amount of weapons that Borderlands has is hands down its crowning jewel, even though there are over a million weapons in Borderlands. They fall under specific categories like most roleplaying games. To help you on your journey through Pandora, you will need to know whats what here and there. Or you will be next meal on the Skag Menu.
Weapon Types:
Combat Rifles:
Probably the most popular type of weapon in most games, often called assault rifles. In Borderlands they are instead called Combat Rifles. They work the same way most classic assault rifle like weapons work. You start off with this kind of weapon after exiting the bus and given the HUD by CL4P-TP General Purpose Robot or Claptrap for short at the beginning of the game for the Soldier class (Roland).
Pistols/Repeater Pistols:
Another popular weapon in the genre of shooting, pistols in this game are somewhat automatic and are called Repeater Pistols instead but are just nicknamed Pistols by many. Working exactly the same way Pistols do, being small, typically one handed weapons. These weapons come not to late past the introduction. The Siren Class (Lilith) is usually a favored class with pistols.
Revolvers:
Remember Revolver Ocelot from Metal Gear Solid. Ever wanted to be like him, now you can... sort-of. Revolvers in this game work generally like that of a real revolver. Being able to hold six rounds inside of a small canister. Typically. Revolvers are just overpowered pistols designed for accuracy and heavy damage. Revolvers are very deadly and will save your life on many occasions if you have one.
Shotguns:
Against the Combat Rifle and the Pistols. Shotguns are again, another popular weapon commonly found. Made for close combat, Shotguns are typically a life saver in close-quarters-combat. A Point-Blank shot is almost-to-full blown lethal to an enemy. Shotguns are very powerful in this form of combat. But should not be used at long range due to their tendency to spread. Not advised to play sniper with a shotgun. Because its just a waste of ammo. You start off with these weapons if you pick the berserker class (Brick).
Rocket Launchers:
Rocket Launchers are the best way of saying "*** you" other than a grenade. Rocket Launchers are very deadly, both to fleshy targets and vehicles. The Explosive damage this *** does will send your enemies packing into tiny little pieces. Very tiny little pieces.
Sniper Rifles:
The Undefeated Champion in Long-Range Combat. A Sniper Rifle is the very essence of long range warfare. A Sniper Rifle can scope in on your target hundreds of meters away from your location, all you have to do is aim and pull the trigger and bang. A Psycho's head is long gone. The Hunter Class (Mordecai) is a favored class with the rifle.
Sub-Machine Guns (SMGs):
Combat Rifles aren't the best choice often. Being somewhat semi-automatic at times, or even having low clips, SMGs fix this problem, being usually packed in enough rounds to fill a bandit's stomach full of lead. SMGs are fast, automatic and light weight for those times you want to run fast, really really fast. This is the starting weapon for the Siren Class (Lilith).
Alien/Eridian Weaponry:
It should be noted that this is technically a sub-classification for all weaponry types but Eridian Weaponry is its own unique type itself. Being very, very powerful and quite rare. These weapons look organic in every meaning of the word and have unlimited ammunition.
Proficiency System:
The Proficiency System works out like another way of leveling, like other roleplaying games like Fallout 3 or Oblivion. Proficiency in Weaponry is technically in Borderlands how good you are at that weapon. The Maximum Level for the Proficiency System is 50, simply put, the better you are at with a weapon. the more you will kick **** with it.
