Keygens aren't viruses but they may appear to be.. depends where you DL them from.

Indeed, I have a feeling he downloaded a keygen for sony or adobe and it came up as a virus...When you delete an item, it is not fully deleted it stores itself in the recyle bin (even after you empty the recycle bin), so you need to delete it with a virus scanner or the virus can still spread and attack your other drives.
