I did this with 3 people so I don't know if it'll work for only 2.
Set each player to a designated pressure plate. After everyone has stood on a plate, the staircase with extend. Located to the right side of the staircase is a rail with a circular spiked object on it. This is the timer. When it reaches the top, you time is up and rushing water carries you back the the bottom. The timer resets to the bottom too.
