How di you do this it would not work.....my xbox just stayed frozen for ten minutes...plz help

My xbox just stayed frozen plz help........like when i turned my thing off it like returned to the main menu thing...so what i did (i dont know if this is correct or not) right when i shut off my box thing i hit enter...like i said i dont know if that is right...it stayed frozen so i just shut off my xbox....sum1 plzz reply
