My problem is that I just bought a headset mic that uses the 2 jacks cables or w/e.
Anyways. I plug my headphone one in and it works fine no problems. Then I plug it into the front line in jack for headphones. It detects the line in but it detects no sound from the microphone. I have a laptop and windows vista.
This is what it looks like when I have it plugged in.

And when I test the mic there is no sound. It complete blank. How do I fix this? Is it possibly a problem with the jack? My other mic doesn't work either when I plug it in.

Most likely a problem with the jack. Try another headset that uses the same cables and see if it works. Rarely it could be that you have an outdated sound driver although I highly doubt that's it. If it works with another headset that means that your headset is not good.

Yes, I have used another mic and it did not work. The thing is the the mic used to work before. Like maybe a half a year ago? Now it doesn't work with any mics.

Well that's strange. It might be a short circuit in the ports. That happened to mine so I have been using the one in the back. I'm pretty sure it's not a driver or headset issue. Most likely the ports. But I am stumped at how it just stopped working. Is the port that is having trouble on the back of your computer or the front?

Did you recently install any programs that use audio like Skype or MSN Messenger? Those type of programs sometimes interfere with the signals of certain ports.

If after installing Skype you started receiving those problems that's the source of the problem. Close out of Skype completely and test your mic. If its still having the problem let me know. If not well you need to search for an older version of Skype and try that one.

This might be going to simple here but I have unfortunately ran out of suggestions. Did you try restating the computer.
