Right click on the speaker icon which is usually on the desktop toolbar in the lower right corner of your display. Then click on Playback Devices then double click on either Headphones or Speakers (whichever one your using?). Click Properties, then click on the Advanced tab and then click on pull down menu which will give you a range of sampling rate/bit depth selections. Now select "16 bit, 44100 Hz (CD Quality)" setting and click on Apply then click on ok. This should fix it.

Back up all of your music and uninstall iTunes and then re-install the newest version and put your music back. It happened to me and that's what I did and it worked.

I would try my method before reinstalling, I don't think that's the problem.
