Here are some reports ive found in a very interesting place

Is Osama bin Laden's death a big political conspiracy? Many on the web won't be satisfied until they see the dead body.

US officials say they used facial recognition software and even DNA testing to confirm with 99.9 per cent confidence that Osama bin Laden had in fact been killed, but nothing short of photos of the body will satisfy the internet's army of conspiracy theorists.

The same bloggers who have questioned US President Barack Obama about his birthplace and even his university marks are now drumming up internet conspiracies claiming that, rather than being buried in the Arabian Sea as claimed, bin Laden is either alive or has been dead for years.

The conspiracy theorists have no doubt found further ammunition in the fake photos of a dead Osama that have been circulating online. Further, former president George Bush's premature "Mission Accomplished" speech on the Iraq war and government mistruths about weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) have also heightened cynicism.

After the Taliban in Pakistan claimed on Pakistani TV that bin Laden was still alive, a slew of Facebook groups have sprung up with titles such as "Osama bin Laden NOT DEAD". All over Twitter and Facebook, people are questioning the details of the Osama assassination and the political motivations behind the announcement.

"Where is the proof that he died? Show me the picture. If he were killed which the Americans say he was then it would make immense sense for them to make the body public," one Facebook user wrote.

US radio host Alex Jones, who believes the US government was behind the September 11 attacks, said the government "had Osama bin Laden frozen for years" and concocted the killing to justify a security crackdown.

Others say bin Laden has been dead for years and the US government continued to release videos of him to encourage support for the war on terrorism.

Other conservative US bloggers such as Michael Walker from the site Big Government have demanded that Mr Obama lay the terrorist's corpse out in lower Manhattan.

Many of the conspiracy theorists are gathering on the Tea Party Nation website. "Don't you think Obama needs something to assure his re-election," wrote one commenter.

In one of the more bizarre theories, some are even claiming that Mr Obama timed the announcement to knock off Donald Trump's reality show Celebrity Apprentice, as payback for Mr Trump's recent "birther" campaign against him.

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan, whose son was killed in Iraq in 2004, wrote on Facebook: "I am sorry, but if you believe the newest death of OBL, you're stupid. Just think to yourself - they paraded Saddam's dead sons around to prove they were dead - why do you suppose they hastily buried this version of OBL at sea? This lying, murderous Empire can only exist with your brainwashed consent - just put your flags away and THINK!"

It's not just those with political motivations who are questioning the official story - Stella Olender, of Chicago, who lost her daughter Christine in the September 11 attacks, told US media she did not know whether bin Laden was dead or not.

"To me, that seems strange, that they disposed of it and no one [besides] whoever was right there knows what happened, if it's true or false, you know?" she said.

The White House said it was still deciding whether to release a photo of bin Laden's body and claims it was dumped in the sea to appease Islamic customs stipulating a swift burial and to prevent a "shrine" being created. There is concern that releasing the photos will only enrage the Muslim world.

"We don't want to do anything to compromise our ability to be successful the next time we get one of these guys and take him off the battlefield," said US counter-terrorism adviser John Brennan at a press conference.

Michael Barkun, professor emeritus of political science at Syracuse University and an expert on conspiracy theories, told the Chicago Tribune that, even if there were images of the corpse, there would still be conspiracy theories.

"Those people who don't accept it and have generated alternative explanations now have a way of communicating those alternative explanations more broadly than would have been the case 25 or 30 years ago because they have the internet," he said.

US television network ABC News reported that US officials used DNA from bin Laden's half sister, who died at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, to confirm the identity of the corpse. The hospital told The New York Times that it could not verify the report.

The US is also believed to have collected DNA samples from bin Laden family members in the years since the September 11 2001 attacks that triggered the US-led invasion of Afghanistan.

Assistant Professor of Forensic Studies at the University of Canberra, Dr Dennis McNevin, said bin Laden could be identified with different types of DNA from the paternal or maternal sides of his family.

He said the easiest way to conduct a DNA test would have been with a cheek swab or by drawing bin Laden's blood.

"The Y-chromosome [DNA] is shared by paternal relatives and the mitochondrial DNA is shared by maternal relatives.

"So if there was a male found and the Y-chromosome matched, then you can be quite certain that they shared the same father.

"The profiles are identical for a match, but because you don't look at the whole Y-chromosome, you can never be absolutely certain. But the probabilities are typically of the order much greater than 99 per cent certain."

Dr McNevin said "likelihood ratios" would have been used to determine how related the two DNA samples were.

"It depends really upon the sequence of the Y-chromosome that's found.

"The way this is reported is they report what's called a likelihood ratio. The likelihood ratio is a ratio of probabilities that these two people are related, divided by the probability that the profile matches a random member of the population.

"The higher that ratio, the more likely that the two people are related. And those likelihood ratios are typically of the order of millions and billions."

US officials claim the DNA evidence provides a match with 99.9 per cent confidence.

Its funny how there is no proof "they" say he is dead but since they have not given any proof of his death then no one really knows if he is dead
