I really don't understand this...

Isn't the "Thank (insert username) for this topic" supposed to be used to actually...believe it or not...to say thanks?

Why do people who give things away, host "free" lobbies, and do other various things, only do said things if you thank the topic first? It seems like every other thread I'm opening is "Please thank the topic to get ______".

I understand if the user who creates the topic genuinely helps the person out, then it would be nice for the person who recieved the help thank the person for giving it...but why should it be required before you do anything? What's worse, is in these threads, most of them will ask for rep, without actually saying those words because they know asking for +rep is not allowed. I feel asking for "Thanks" should be the same way.

If you are trying to help the community out...help them out. Helping is completely different than exchanging your services for rep or a thanked topic. Maybe its just me...I just feel being thanked for a post is something that should be earned...not asked and demanded for.

The following 2 users thanked lachrymotion for this useful post:

If you are looking for a lobby for MW2 that is not sticky and they are asking for a thanks first, it will not be legit. People that ask for thanks first usually arent legit either.

First off...most people who know anything about MW2 and or lobbies should know there are no public methods. People will always post garbage in the MW2 section just looking for YouTube subs, rep, thanks, etc. If you're daft enough to ask for a invite to a fake lobby...well...should have done your research first.

I get why people do it...they're just wanting their topic to be thanked, but asking for it takes away the actual point behind being thanked. Saying thanks to someone should be genuine in my opinion...not a way to get infections in COD4, invites to an Elite Beta, or Graphics. If you recieve these things...you SHOULD thank the person who helped you out in return for their hard work, but it shouldn't be required before they actually help you out.
