Your budget: 50 bucks

Which genres you'll be listening to: Rap, rock.

What kind you want: Doesn't matter. I like both.

Whether you want open or closed headphones: Either is fine.

What you are listening from:Laptop/Android

PM ME WHEN YOU HAVE IT FIGURED OUT.

Since you listen to two very different genres, neutral headphones are probably what you're after.

For IEMs, the Brainwavz M2, just about no contest.

For on-ears, the Koss Portapros or Koss KSC75s. They'll handle both genres very well. They also have the exact same drivers, so will sound about the same. It's just a matter of how much you want to pay and what design you prefer.

The JVC HA RX700s are some of the best full-size cans under 50 bucks. Another good choice would be the Superlux HD 681s. From what I have heard and from research, these might be the best bang for your buck cans out there. I'd definitely consider them.

PM sent.

I'm not an IEM person myself, but I do know a good bit about them.

For under $100, look at the Head-Direct RE-0,

the Westone UM1s if you can stretch that budget a bit,

The Klipsch Image S4s,

The Hippo VB,

Brainwavz M3 (these might be your best bet),

And the Shure SE215s.

For you, something special.
I realize you requested IEMs, but if i were you, I'd screw that minute amount of portability you gain over my recommendation in favor of far superior sound quality. First of all, I must reccomend the Koss [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] as your best bet at this price range. Now you could stop there... Or you can buy [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and still be under $100. The fiio e6 is a portable amp and the fiio l9 is a line out device for apple products. This combo will give you the best sound at that price point.
Best of luck,
Zim

Yeah, I've had ample time with Schmandy's pair. The do not isolate nearly as well as the M50, but the signature is similar to the PRO700mkII. I've also heard the an amp makes them a contestant for best under $200. I'd love to try them with the O2 when I get it.
