Sorry, but you're wrong, and I've explained why in the OP in depth. Please don't post about Beats, I covered that in the OP too.

Budget: Anywhere from $0 - $500

Music preference: neutral

Type / form factor and portability: IEM

Open/Closed (Not for in-ear): IEM

Source(s): Android phone, iPod, DJ, Computer, Studio

Right now I have Bose QC3's (gift) which are too bass heavy and muffled. The JH's are too expensive for me and I need an alternative

It's not really a matter of opinion, though. measurements, subjective and objective tests, and specs have clearly shown Beats to be inferior headphones. I wish they were good, but they're unfortunately not.

$500 definitely puts you in the custom-IEM range! Get excited!

I've heard nothing but good things of the 1964 Ears 1964-T.

Look up a few reviews on Head-Fi to get an idea of what you're getting into. After some reading, they seem to be what you're after. Here's some more info on custom-IEMs:

And here's a thread for just 1964 Ears:

FiiO E11? Those have a lot of power. The E6 have a EQ. The ZO2 could be something for you if you stretch the budget, they are made for bass boosting.

Also, have you considered joining Head-fi? There is a lot of Australians there.
