really late, thanks r00t_b33r and Ishcabible for the advice, I looked up the FXT90's on HF and did a little bit of research on them and some competitors, namely the Shure SE215's, because i heard they're quite bassy and just as cheap if not cheaper. As well, they sell them at my local Future Shop for not much more than their ebay price and with less hassle. I was also looking at the Sony MDR EX600's because they're not too much more and one HF user said:

"A listening sesion of your favorite album with the Sony MDR EX600 feels like felatio from Jessica Alba and eating chocolate icecream at the same time, all this while watching your favorite team winning the related worldcup and receiving an Oscar from Natalie Portman who then gives you a long french kiss while everybody goes crazy in a standing ovation. yeah, it is just that good."

this being said, I have also heard some negative reviews of these and was wondering if you guys have any opinion on them?

i also heard they're faked on ebay all the time and that kinda bothers me..

what would you say about the JVC's in comparison to these other two? still better?

and i'm not looking for just bass, i don't listen to dubstep or little kid rap, so i'd prefer a more balanced iem with good bass rather than one with great bass and sketchy mids and high'.

thanks again guys, i really appreciate everything you do, and my sincere thanks for ridding the world of beats once and for all,
this is probably my favorite thread on TTG right now

Haha, I'm glad you appreciate it!

Honestly, you're not going to make a bad decision at this point. Whatever you get, you'll be very happy with unless you decide that's not the sound signature you're looking for. It happens to all of us, myself included. I bought a pair of Aiaiai TMA-1s and don't like them just because of the way they sound. It's all part of the experience, really, and why you always want to try out anything you buy if at all possible. Usually, it's not possible and you're going off of reviews and measurements. Determining what you don't like is just as important as determining what you do like!

The SE215 is a great IEM. It's extremely durable, comfortable, and isolates like a dream. If you're going to use these in loud places, the SE215 is what I would go with. All of these will have great mids and highs in addition to bass, just with an emphasis on the low-end. You shouldn't get any intrusion that messes up the rest of the sound.

As for the FXT90, nobody can put it better than Joker. Also check out his reviews of the SE215 and EX600. Ctrl + F will help you find them in his huge post.

read all the reviews, thanks for linking that! very useful thread as well.

i'm well aware that everything in this price range is going to be good, i just enjoy obsessing over stuff like this.

so i talked to my dad about which headphones i was interested in (as he would be the one buying them for me),
and being the wonderful man that he is, he told me that for my birthday he would take me to the local high-end audio store (aptly named "The Headphone Bar") and let me try out everything they have to offer and base my decision around that.

I'm seriously hoping they have everything I was looking at because when i checked their website they only had a couple IEM's for sale there.

Anyway, thanks guys for all your help with the matter, and I'll report back in a week or so after I try them all out

VEVO wrote I have a budget of $130. I typically listen to music on my iPhone and on my stereo system that hooks up to my PC. I use the fat plug on the stereo to be able to. I usually listen to a wide variety of songs but typically ones with high bass. I also want to be able to use them so that I can hear surroundings well like lets say gunshots and be able to pinpoint their direction. Also, I prefer something with a nice design so i can be able to use them when I'm out and not look completely ugly. Around the ear noise isolating headphones are what I am used to. Plus rep if you help me out. Oh, and this is what will make it hurt. They have to be from Best Buy. I have a gift card with them and that's the only way. :|
If you can in any way add $20 to your budget, the Philips Citiscape Uptown would be absolutely perfect for you. [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

The Koss PRODJ100 wouldn't be a bad option for you either, but don't look as cool: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

If you don't mind on-ears, the AKG K181 would be the best option since they're incredibly bassy: [ Register or Signin to view external links. ]
I was looking around and saw some Sennheiser HD 518s. What do you think about those? I know they are meant for studios but that is what I'll be primarily using them on anyway.

The 518 is pretty good and probably the best you'll get out of most Best Buys. Not sure what else is there, though. If you're after a ton of bass, they're not for you, but for monitoring or production, they're good. They also benefit from an amp if you want to add one. A Fiio E11 is a good match for these.

I think you'd benefit a lot from selling the gift card and ordering other headphones online. If that's a possibility, I'd recommend you do that. You'll be able to get something that's exactly what you want instead of settling just on what they have.
I found sites that buy them but I'll be getting 110 out of my 140 total due to fees. I'm not looking for super bass headphones just good ones that are beyond some others.

I just checked Ebay and it looks like you'd only lose ~10 bucks there. It's your choice, though. The 518 is not bad at all, but it just doesn't sound like it's what you're looking for.
Well what headphones with good bass would you recommend for $130?

Sorry for the late response. The Ultrasone HFI-580, V-Moda LP (The 580 > these, but the V-Modas have a lot more than just SQ to consider), and the AKG K181DJ (On-ear, very bassy).

If you're producing, though, I'd go for the AKG K272.

Creative Aurvana Live, definitely. Maybe the Sony XB700 if you can find them right now. They may not be back in stock yet.
