or the hippos for base or are they the same? i do like the 15$ price on the others but i dont see how they could compete witha pair of 80$ ones.
They're not made to compete, but both are great bassy options at their price range (possibly the best). If you're into bass, I would get the 5010s over the 7010s since the 7010s are marketed as "flat," and you're probably looking for a more bass-oriented headphone. I would honestly order the Xeport 5010s and a pair of Koss KSC75s jut to try them. They're both just so great and just so cheap, that they're worth having! I have multiple higher-end headphones and even a pair of Portapros (VERY similar to KSC75s), but I'm going to pick up both of these.
so wait the Xeport 5010s soud better than apple head phone by alot? give me a number 1-10
just picked up a pair of beats from my bud who works at future shop for 40$!!! i will but the Xeport 5010s to compare if there better i can return the beats.

Type / form factor and portability: I'd rather have some that are portable and look good, but if not that's totally fine. Over ear or in ear is fine with me.
Open/Closed (Not for in-ear): Doesnt matter

The Brainwavz M2 fits those criteria very well! You'll save some money as well. They look fantastic and should do well with your music preferences.

Better than the Apple ones, yes! I can't give a number, but I'm sure Ishcabible can since he's had first-hand experience with them.
I'm willing to say the Xeports will be as good as if not better than the Beats.

Do NOT get the 7010's. They're sadly the most disappointing thing in their lineup. They're a muffled mess in comparison to the 5010 and 3010. And I'm sadly the only one here that has the XePorts and I haven't been able to get the VB's but if I can make an educated guess, the 5010's are at least 85% as good.
Up to $80 for a portable headphone for rap, rock, and dubstep would be the Audio Technica ES7 (if you can find one, they're awesome for rock and rap imo), Creative Aurvana Live, AKG K518/K81, or Panasonic HTX7 on the cheap. If you can find an AKG K181 (the K81's bigger brother) in your price range, get it right away.
How do the XePorts compete with iBuds? Well I'm in the minority that doesn't think iBuds (the newer ones) are abominable. They're pretty okay for Indie Folk, which is my main genre these days. I give them a 3 our of 10 and the 5010's a 5 in pure sound quality. 10's for me are the Hifiman HE500 and JVC DX1000 for reference, I'm not saying that the XePorts aren't good, they are, but I don't want to overhype them. Solos get a 1, Studios get a 3, Pros get a 6 (I actually like these...), for a different reference.

Yep. I don't pick sides either. If Beats were better, I would recommend them. But they're not. Not at all.
You pay more for the brand than anything else. The profit margins are HUGE.

r00t_b33r wroteiSpot wrote Ok, I am wanting to buy 2 pairs of Headphones. One for travel/school, and another to use at my house.
Budget: $0 - $150 or Higher if necessary for In ear headphones (travel), and $0 - $40 for over ear headphones (home)
Music preference: Dubstep, Rap, Pop
Source(s): iPod, or Laptop
Other: I want something with lots and lots of bass, but also something with good sound quality on all other songs. Reason I want to spend more on in ear headphones is because they are the easiest to carry around on trips, or at school and thats when I really need to have headphones. Since at home, I do a mixture of youtube, netflix, and music (not gaming).. i wanted something with comfort, because I will be wearing them for hours at a time. however i do wish it will also have bass, but I know it will be hard with that price range. If you want, feel free to mix up the price ranges, however I dont want to be spending $200 + on headphones. Thanks for the help
Honestly, I would not buy over-ear cans at such a low budget if you are getting such a nice pair of IEMs. Instead, I would pick up a pair of either Koss Portapros or KSC75s, depending on which design you prefer in addition to the IEMs. Since the Koss headphones are so cheap yet such great performers, they're great to have if you are tired of wearing IEMs. The KSC75s are EXTREMELY cheap, but perform fantastically. You'll like their bassy sound, too!
IEMs. You've got a number of options. You could go with the venerable Ultimate Ears Triple-Fi 10, which have quite good bass (which is clearly what you're after here), or you could go something more bass-heavy. The Vsonic GR07, the Sony MDR EX510, and the Future Sonics Atrio are some good choices. The Vsonic GR07 would be my choice of these, but they will set you back $180. Although, I think this would be worth it. If you intend to wear any IEMs for long periods of time, I would also recommend you pick up some Comply foam tips. The GR07s are not officially supported by Comply, but I know for a fact that there is a model that fits. Google should help.
If you need any help or changed your mind at all, just tell me!
Ok, I got me a nice pair In Ear Headphones.. So I can now increase my budget for over ear headphones to about $160 or so. Any advice? Remember I want plenty of bass!

If you can't swing the extra $10 for shipping the DT990's, the Ultrasones would be my first choice.
