My Kinect camera works and the microphone only works when not in party chat. I did check if it was muted; etc. When I go to the dashboard and say "Xbox" the thing pops up, so the mic works, but I can't talk to my friends. Any help?

Usually that is your online safety. You can check that at My xbox>Profile>Online safety (3rd pane over). Make sure you have it set to voice communicate with everyone.
