so i just got this new xbox after waiting a month for one because my old one rrod, it arrived and the dvd drive doesn't work, just says 'Play DVD' when i insert a game. tried different DVD drives, clear system cache, different games, different wires, been on the phone to microsoft for an hour, reinstalled the latest dashboard NOTHING. it's second hand and i have messaged the guy on ebay demanding a refund, but is there any solution to this you guys can think of before i throw this piece of sh*t out a window! microsoft said it would most likley be something wrong with the motherboard, that a port had gone wrong, so if you know someone in the UK who will fix that cheaply also say.

That is usually common on Ebay from sellers selling consoles with a mixed match drive.
That drive is probably not the original and your key is lost. You will need to have the original drive married to the mobo and extract the dvd key from the drive.
I would go ahead and open a claim via Paypal and Ebay to get a refund. Sounds like he ripped you off.

i tried 3 different drives, two of them spin the disc fully and scan it with a laser, but just do the Play DVD thing, one scans it but spins it for half a second and just says open tray?

Open a case and try to get your money back. Were their refunds on the xbox?
