I'm pretty good with computers (software writing and hardware moderate basics) but I've been out the hardware rating scene for a little bit.

Is this laptop any good for the money? As far as I can tell, the specs seem pretty good to me. My current "good" computer is only a dual core 2.3 GHZ as opposed to 3.0 ghz, and it's running on a DDR2 motherboard / ramchips instead of DDR3.

The laptop also has one more GIG of ram then my current "good desktop".

The only thing I'm worried about on this laptop is the graphics card. I've never followed ATI (more of a nvidia person) and I don't know if the ATI Radeon 4250 is decent. I don't need anything that will run Crysis 2 on full settings, but I'd like to be able to run:

Minecraft with normal rendering distance, and fast graphics settings
WAW on very low resolution, no niceties
BLOPS if at all possible
And lots of retro games that I know that will work.

So, I know that my nvidia 8400 gs on my "good" computer works fine, and that it's only faster than the ATI Radeon 4250 by the Shader Clock rate and the fact that its not integrated.

So, tl;dr, is the ATI Radeon 4250 good enough to play Minecraft (mostly just for this game) with decent FPS? Any experiences with this card or the Gateway NV53A82u laptop?

Thanks for any help

The ATI Radeon 4250 graphics are built into the AMD CPU ( Just like Intel's HD 2000 / 3000 video chipsets ).

Basically, no, it's fancy letters for on-board graphics. It's meant more for a HTPC to stream and watch videos.

Just build a PC and call it a day. You can't match the performance of a desktop.

I know its onboard, and I built the PC I'm posting from now. Unfortunately, I very specifically need a laptop. My question is if this chipset is worth a damn. I've seen videos of chipsets with onboard ATI Radeon 4250's running minecraft and etc. fairly well, I just want to be sure before I blow around 500 bucks.

I've only seen a couple of videos where they benchmark MC using a 4250. But anyways, that's besides the point. I had a 5650m ( which is much stronger ) and it ran it @ around 40 FPS on normal settings - So I don't see it running that smoothly. For what you're paying, laptop performance is sub-par...even if you have the money. I know this might sound weird, but try testing the game out in store if possible. You could always return it back if you're not satisfied with it!

I was actually going to run up to the store and test it out tomorrow

I'll see how it goes. I'm sure I can squeeze SOME performance out of it.
