The Beats by Dr. Dre headphone line is busting out in colors.

Expected in stores by next week are various colors of the popular Studio over-ear headphones ($350 on beatsbydre.com) in purple, blue, orange, pink and brushed aluminum. Current models in black, white and red are $300. (There's also a Boston Red Sox version at beatsbydre.com.)

"We like to be able to make our products pop and people like to be individuals and wear different colors," said Interscope Geffen A&M Chairman Jimmy Iovine, who co-founded Beats by Dre in 2006 with musician and producer Dr. Dre. "We are on the side of the consumer."

Coming next month, a Beats Wireless Solo on-ear Bluetooth model (no price yet). "The Wireless Solo is very important to us to get right," Iovine says, "because we don't believe wireless Bluetooth sounds great on headphones. It took us a long time to get something that we thought was impactful enough to put the Beats stamp on and I think we have gotten there."

Also due by the holiday season (no price yet):
-- New Beats mixer headphones designed for disc jockeys, developed with Grammy winner David Guetta. "It's strong, light, durable and powerful," Iovine says.

-- A new Beatbox portable speaker with built-into Bluetooth. "You can connect your phone, your tablet, your computer, anything with Bluetooth pairing for audio out, which is almost every device now," says Luke Wood, Beats Electronics president and chief operating officer.

This year, Beats expects revenue in excess of $500 million, Iovine says. Like many other companies, it's being hit with massive counterfeiting of its products. "They are coming out of China," he says. "It's a real problem in consumer electronics right now."

Beats are available in only a few bricks-and-mortar locations including Best Buy, Apple Stores, InMotion airport shops, Staples and Target, and at their online outlets, plus online at Amazon.com, Crutchfield.com and others. "If it's on the street, its not Beats," Iovine says.

Please, do not buy Beats. Do yourself a favor. Or Bose, or Skullcandy, or Sol, same deal.
