Go to xbox.com.

Go to [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] and go to Friends, sign in to your account.

Scroll down and type the gamertag here,

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

If they ARE OFFLINE it should look like this.

Sorry if you knew this, also I know this is in wrong section, the other section is dead.

If they are APPEARING OFFLINE it should look something like this.

It depends on what they are doing.
