No , you have to be connected to xbox live to play an indie game, i wouldn't recommend license transferring, people have been getting banned for doing that.

License Transfer is the best option.
Recover the persons gamertag, go to manage account on there profile and then it should give you a list of options then you just click 'License Transfer' Then it starts to download everything the other person ever bought just cancel the ones you don't want and leave the ones you do want.
