So i have my old computer hard drive witch had windows xp on it if i was to install (physically) it on my new computer witch has win7 would i be able to dualboot? or do i have to reformat then reinstall windows xp on my old hard drive? also would windows 7 recognize it without formatting?

Yes you can dualboot like this, the only thing is if it's an actual hard-disc then you can only plug it in via Sata. So you are going to require to open your computer then install the hard-drive then you are good. Just select it as your boot device through BIOS or use easy BCD to make a boot entry through the windows bootloader.

Yeah what rdca said, but you can also transfer files over which is also good.
