i play minecraft 1.8.1 and i can not find any apple can someone help me please

You can only find apples in dungeon chest's (near spawner's) im not sure if your able to find them in abandoned mines, i have found things like gold ingot's etc in abandoned mines but im pretty sure apples are reasonably common in dungeon chest's and the other ways i guess to get apples is either to cheat and spawn them or get a mod like a farming mod for example where you can have apple trees.
