Ever find yourself trying to make that perfect character for your style? Maybe want a mage but you keep running out of magic to fast? Well I am going to teach you how to make that perfect Mage, Warrior, Assassin, or even thief. I will also teach you how to make your own custom type of character. Plus I will make my own custom character build for each type of character so I can show you how I do it and how you can do it.

Before I start lets look at this chart that will be a huge asset in knowing what race will be your ultimate character!

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

NOTE: You should NOT make your race choice solely off stats. Chose what you really want to be!

my list of characters that I use:

Berserker
Spell Sword
Battle mage
destruction mage
conjurer mage
healing mage
assassin
thief
knight
sentinel
archer

Lets start with Mage.

A mage works best with a few different races depending on the type of mage you want.

a few differnt types of mage I will explain.

Destruction mage (master of the destruction spells)

Healing mage (master of restoration and illusion spells)

and Conjurer mage (master of conjugation and mysticism spells)

Destruction Mage

You will find that Elves are the best when it comes to mages!

Dark Elves to be specific are seemingly the elite Destruction Mage

Dark Elves are also good for battle mages and spell swords.

Dark Elves start out with flames and sparks so they have a variety of destruction magic form the get-go and do extra fire damage. They also have a greater power that surrounds them with fire for a short time hurting all enemies that get close.

To build a destruction mage you want to start off choosing the star stone of the wizard to give you extra magic. You will also want to buy spells from the court mage in one of the Jarals palaces. Buy A few of all kinds so you dont find yourself short. Buy at least one rune spell (magical land mines) and buy the lightning bolt spell, the ice bolt spell, and the fire bolt spell. These are all powerful destruction spell capable of killing almost any enemy, even Dragons. After that you want to use either two destruction spells in each hand or one in your left hand and a long sword of dagger in your right. Using a different destruction spell in each hand tends to do less damage and although it looks cool can cause you to come up short.

Healing Mage

When making a healing mage the two best races are High Elves and Imperials who both excel in restoration magic.

Chose either a high elf of imperial (if you want) as a starting character. When you start you will want to use a sword and a shield. Use either enchanted robes or light armor. Again with any mage your character your character building starts when you reach your first major city with a Jarals palace. Find the court mage in a jarals palace and buy Any healing spell you can. The illusion spells are unimportant because their effects are wide spread and what you chose to do with them is your choice. If you want to level up your character and restoration really fast you can purposely hurt yourself and than heal up with spells. Imperials how ever do not really excel at illusion magic only restoration.

Conjurer Mage

Conjurer Mages are mages who like to summon creature to do their dirty work. The two races that excel in this are Bretons and High Elves. If you chose High Elves please note that even though they excel in all forms of magic they are HIGHLY susceptible to destruction magic. OK so like any mage what you want to do is start off with a sword and a shield and work your way up to magical staffs. Get to a court wizard and buy any conjuration spells you want and any mysticism spells you want. Their effects all vary and its your choice. Bretons do not excel to well at mysticism spells though.

OK Next lets go over some warriors such as...

Berserkers
Knights
Spell Swords
Battle Mages
Sentinels

Berserker

[align=center]A "Berserker" is a warrior who favors heavy armor and two handed weapons. The two best races for this are Orcs and Nords. Both races are strong and can carry a lot of weight. For starters with a berserker you will want to follow the Stormcloaks at the beginning which will lead you to imperial armor (average heavy armor) and an iron greatsword. The weapons you will favor will be Greatswords, Battle axes, and war hammers. Try to travel around more than fast travel and fight as much as you can to get your stats up. Focus mainly on heavy armor and two handed weapons.

Knight

A knight is a character who favors long swords and shields. The best races for this are Imperials and Redguards. Both excel in the block and one-handed weapon skills as well as both light and heavy armor. To start off with these character follow the imperials and you should start out with an iron long sword and an iron shield and later come across some leather or hide armor. These are the easiest and most basic (also one of the most fun) characters to make. I recommend making one if its your first time playing an Elder Scrolls game! So with these characters you build them with your fighting style. The best way is to keep your shield up and bash your enemy with it as soon as they attack causing your block skill to increase and your enemy to stumble. While they stumble strike with your sword then put your shield back up. This increase your one handed skill and kill your enemy

Spell Swords and Battle Mages

Again the best for spell swords and battle mages are imperials and redguards. Both excel in one-handed and destruction magic. For these types of characters your starting path should be with the imperials so you can get your hands on a long sword. Use a long sword in your right hand and flames spell in your left. (this is really fun :3) This causes you to me very lethal at short and medium range. But leave your open to attack because you can't block. Spell Swords should use light armor and Battle Mages should use heavy armor. For your helmet how every you should try to make or find an enchanted hood, helmet or cowl. The enchantment should preferably boost your magic or destruction spells.

Sentinels

Sentinels are best with imperials and redguards and favor using light and heavy armor. They focus primarily on stamina, light or heavy armor, and one-handed skills. A sentinel is a warrior who uses either two longswords, two maces, or two war axes. The best way to start with a sentinel is to go with the imperials and pick up any armor you can find and who iron long swords. These characters are hard to build because without a lot of stamina to fling your two swords around you may find your self dying a lot. But after you overcome that and get your stamina up some you should not have a big problem with that. Sentinels can't block so your armor skill goes up fairly fast.

Finally lets go over your stealth based characters (my favorite )

stealth based characters are
Assassins
thieves
archers

Assassin

Assassins are characters who sneak around with bows and daggers getting instakills from behind. The best two characters for this are Argonians and Khajiits. Both excel in sneak and lock picking. Start these two characters off going with the imperials. Pick up two iron daggers and whatever light armor you can find. When you find yourself having to fight head on, use two daggers as is deadly and fast. You should try to avoid head on fights as you can not block and are weak to begin with. When leveling up try to increase your stamina and health as much as possible. Stamina is a must when fighting with two weapons. When you are sneaking around use only ONE dagger if you want to do assassination kills. You will get sneak attack bonuses either way but with one dagger you do a cool finisher normally slitting your enemies throat from behind. (all ways fun ) Also to get your sneak up easily try and find an enemy who is sitting down or sleeping and use a rubber band on your thumb stick while sneaking to continuously walk around in a corner. Leave your controller along for a little while and your sneak should increase. Finally join the Dark Brotherhood and you will get the shrouded armor which is AMAZING for assassins because it makes your footsteps silent and your bow and stealth kills more deadly. Also work your your archery for long range assassinations.

Thieves

Thieves are best with Argonians and Khajiits. Both races excel at sneak and lock pick. To start off with these characters you want to go with the imperials and pick up a sword or dagger and use light armor. (or no armor if you want ) Thieves are not that great for killing and should not be used to do the main quest. After you have completed the main quest you may consider making a thief character for the thieves guild or for just having fun breaking into people houses and stealing their stuff and selling it. Also try pick pocketing. Pick pocketing is a good way to get keys to chest and houses that are either to hard to pick or you just don't feel like going through the trouble also stock up on lock picks when ever you can because until you get your lock pick higher you will be going through them quickly. When pick pocketing with a low level save before you try it so if you get caught you can just reload and try again.

Archers

Archers are best with Wood Elves (they gotta be good for something right?) Archers are stealth based characters who stay a long to medium range away from the enemy and pick them off with a bow. When you start go with the imperials and pick up a dagger or long sword and any light armor you can find. The easiest way get your archery skill up is to go hunting. Roaming the land and finding anything and everything to shoot at is the best way to increase your archery skill. Also being a wood elf you some what excel at lock picking, pick pocketing, sneaking, and light armor. When ever you find arrows of any kind its best to pick them up. Always keep a dagger or long sword handy because the enemy will get in close some times and than a bow is useless.

Got any character builds you want to share? post them! need any extra help building a character? post your questions and i will help you out!
