The Companions

How to Join the Companions in Skyrim
To join the companions, you will need to go to a building called "Jorrvaskr." This is in the city of Whiterun at the upper end part, below Dragonsreach. There are a couple of staircases leading up to it, and there is a large tree below the stairs.

Once your inside Jorrvaskr, you will see a couple of new Companion recruits fighting (sparring) with each other. Other companions are watching the fight and offering words to encourage the fight in progress. A man named Skior is over watching the battle. Speak to Skior to gather information on the Companions.

After the sparring is over between Athis and Niada, speak to Niada. She is very rude, but will tell you "Kodlak Whiteman" is in charge. Other Companions will also tell you he is in charge. Once you find out about Kodlak, you can join the Companions.

Speak to Kodlak Whiteman to Join the Companions in Skyrim
Go downstairs to the Jorrvaskr living quarters. Go down the hallway until you find Kodlak Whiteman. He will most likely be speaking to Vilkas. After their conversation, speak to Kodlak about joining the Companions. Kodlak is the Harbinger of Companions (one who is in charge and others pledge their loyalty to).

Vilkas does not seem to approve of you joining, but Kodlak does. You will need to spar with Vilkas, outside in the courtyard to prove your worth. Make sure not to use magic! The Companions do not approve of magic use. Attack Vilkas with one-handed or two-handed weapons.

The Dark BrotherHood

How To Join The Dark BrotherHood In Skyrim
The Dark Brotherhood is the most secretive of all the factions, and can be tricky to find. Start by going to bars and asking about rumors or information. Try talking to bartenders in Windhelm.
You can also talk to Idesa Sadri in Candalhearth Hall in Windhelm. Ask them about cursed children. If youre in Riften, Maul will share information on the Dark Brotherhood and the Thieves Guild for a price. Find Maul resting on a post near the city entrance.
Eventually youll get a tip to speak with a boy named Aventus Aretino, located in the Aretino Residence in Windhelm. You may be able to speak with him without receiving the rumor first.
Speak to the boy and take the quest Innocence Lost. Nothing will happen.
A time after completing the quest, a courier will deliver you a note. Afterwards, just sleep and youll be contacted by the Dark Brotherhood.
Talk to the stranger at your bedside, and youre in the secret society.

Thieves Guild

First, enter Riften and find Brynjolf. Hes found on the townsquare. Hell be waiting at the storefront during daylight. Talk to him and complete his quest.
After doing what he asked for, hell ask to meet you at a bar balled the Ragged Flagon, located underneath Riften, in the Ratway.
Talking to him in the Ragged Flagon will kick off the Taking Care of Business quest. Complete that, and youll be a member of the Thieves Guild.

College Of WinterHold

How To Join The College Of WinterHold In Skyrim
Before entering the college, the gatekeeper Faralda will want to see a demonstration of magical powers. She will request to see a spell appropriate for your level. If the player does not currently have the requested spell in their spellbook, she offers to sell them to you for around 30 gold. You may also gain entry by telling Faralda that you are a Dragonborn and to demonstrate by performing a Dragon shout in front of her. Once completed, you will be allowed entrance to the College of Winterhold.
