Is that right? I'm trying to hex edit the files, but when I open them up, there's nothing but one line of numbers....I've followed the tutorials, but I'm stumped. Can anyone help?

That's what the program saves them as for backup in case you wrongly hex edit your svg data.

Besides that you could be using a bad hex editer or maybe the wrong directory.

I'm using the hex editor that I got from this site.

Tutorials/id=1778/how-to-mod-the-...-gold.html

But someone told me this isn't possible to do anymore.
