The Personal Computer or PC:

Like the name suggests, the personal computer refers to a general-purpose computing machine designed and developed for personal use. The PC could be a regular desk top computer or a laptop computer or even a pocket PC or a computing machine. In the case of PC, the factors that go into making it 'personal' include the price, size and the computing programs. The personal computer does not require the assistance of a computer operator. The common operating systems within a personal computer are Windows Vista, Windows XP, OS X and Linux. The microprocessors commonly used in these machines are CPUs that are compatible with x86, ARM and PowerPC. The PC enables the user to access software applications such as databases, word processing and spread-sheets.

The PC is high-speed facilitated and allows access to the World Wide Web. These computing machines are used at home and in offices. The PC does not require batch processing or very elaborate data processing systems. The machine can accommodate a wide range of commercial and non-commercial data recovery software.

Macintosh, by Apple Inc.:

Macintosh or Mac is a brand name. The term refers to a whole line of personal computers that were designed and developed by Apple Computers. This Apple Inc. marketed product was first introduced in 1984. The computing machine was the first commercially successful computer that flaunted the irreplaceable computer mouse. The computer also features a user interface that is graphical in nature. The company has consistently developed the personal computer market to accommodate MS-DOS and Windows.

The iMac, launched in 1998, is the consolidated, multiple consumer, computer model. Mac systems are now mainly focused on facilitating the dissemination of knowledge for general education and creative professional markets. The Mac Mini, Mac Pro, Mac Book, Mac Book Air and Xserve configurations are widely marketed. Mac relies on the vertical integration model. Apple facilitates all the hardware and the in-built operating systems. Apple's Mac does accommodate third party components. Mac runs alternative operating systems too, such as Windows and Linux.
