You have to put corresponding Title Updates on both consoles, your retail will be automatic obviously so you only need to get it for the JTAG. Also after you put a TU on it just get a patch a paste it into the game's directory. Yes you can system link with a Ethernet cable into each console but rank will not stick over as it will sign you out even if you use WiFi at the same time.
