I'm at my friends house and he just tried playing a movie and his xbox got one red ring lol What does that mean exactly what's wrong with it?

Either the brick is broken or something is hooked up wrong. Do not send it to xbox about 1 red ring they will take it and take you 80$, and then laugh at you as they take 2 seconds ot fix it.
It can also be an error(But extremely rare) in the system's damage sensor itself, in that case do the "Towel Trick"
Link to towel trick(It's fixed both my working xboxs a lot of times and will determine if it really needs to go to Microsoft)
Edit: One other thing; It can mean an accessory is damaged(Most commonly the hard drive, if so they will fix it(really just give you a new one with no data) for free if you have a warranty if not you're out like $20-$100, it can also refer to fans or w/e if you have it, check all accessories also.

Yea, unplug and replug everything back in. If it is still happening hold down the Sync button and press the dvd tray button. Do this four times, but after each push record the number of blinking lights.
