Bose is overpriced, just like Beats are. Crap sound and build quality, ridiculously high price.

At least they provide good noise cancelling, but I'm guessing 75% of people buying them don't actually need it. Beats don't have too many redeeming points.

I've had extended experience with active NC cans, and I can say that it was far inferior to passive. If you're interested in NC, I usually recommend Etymotics. Although, I've never used the QC15, which seems to be the most popular Bose offering. It's a VERY niche thing that isn't being treated like one.

On planes, passive noise cancelling still let in a little hum, but it's kind of like low-freq hiss, so it's not really a big deal, but I could see some people being annoyed by it. But the QC15's don't passively block enough to get rid of crying, I'd assume. But my T15's block out an incredible amount of sound, probably as much as the Ety's. I'm going to have to try them the next time I'm on a plane.

But yeah, NC headphones really should be used as little as possible because they usually aren't any good. My Phiaton PS20NC's sound better than the Boses, but they don't fit my ear.
