Yo, I'm just posting this because I really have no idea wtf is wrong with my laptop.. -_- anyway.
I have had my laptop since last christmas & It has been fine, no problems with it until recently, When I turn it on it heats up really quickly & turns itself off after 30-45 mins which is a pain in the a$$.
It's a Acer aspire 4552 laptop if that helps, lawl.
I really have no idea what could be causing it so any help if appreciated, I'm happy to +rep you.
Thanks, i guess.

Download HW-monitor and report back your actual temperatures. Laptops are usually prone to always get hot. A good suggestion is to use non-heat conductive surfaces, such as glass...and not a bed. A more advanced and permanent solution would be to get a compressed air can and open your laptop and start spraying all the dust and crums. If all else fails, return it to Acer as long as it's within the 1 year standard warranty.

It sounds like one of the fans is not working properly or at all. The above person had some good suggestions, You could also try buying one of these stands that are made for your lap and other surfaces. What could be happening is you are using your laptop on a bed or on a surface that is covering the vents on the laptop, causing it to overheat. I'll attach a picture of what I mean by a stand.

Most likely your fan which malfunctioned/broke.
A laptop can get extremely hot especially if the fan no longer works. Extreme heat causes your processor shuts itself down in order to prevent damage.
Try hearing/feeling if your fan still works. Or use some software as previously mentioned. If your fan is malfunctioning get it fixed asap because heat + processor =/= good
