Wasn't this a similar idea to that of a recently suspended member? If so, I've already asked Dimebag and it won't be carried out. Just a heads up.

Sly Cooper 2: Band of Thieves

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Release Date: September 14, 2004

Developers: Sucker Punch

Publishers: Sony Computer Entertainment

Platforms: Playstation 2

Genre: Platformer

Players: 1 player

Age Rating: E

Game Rating: 8.5/10

Synopsis (Credit to IGN)

The sequel to Sly Cooper delivers the same crime detective style of presentation, borrowing heavily from movies, novels and comic books to create a beautiful, highly animated game. The story takes place two years after Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus. In the first game, Sly was becoming a professional thief, but in Band of Thieves, he is a professional thief -- so he retains all of the moves from the first game. He also earns new moves and gains different items to assist him in his dark craft. The biggest upgrade comes in form of the new multi-character gameplay. Players might start a level as Sly, and then after completing a particular task, players switch to Bentley, and Murray, respectively.

Graphics

I enjoy the cartoon-like graphics of this game. Like the first game, the graphics are smooth, not HD though in any way, or like a side-scroller's graphics from the old arcades. The graphics generally have a smooth feel, and you can tell what is what with no problems. For it's time period, the graphics run very smoothly and look very clean, especially on the PS2.

Graphics Rating: 8/10

Gameplay

The gameplay is really smooth for this 2004 PS2 game. There's only some strange parts and glitches when jumping from place to place, and sometimes when pickpocketing, but other then that all the other glitches are very minute. I love the way this game plays. You find your mission, then you get even more specific objectives, sometimes having to switch characters between Bently and Murray to get the job done. When you complete missions, you get rewards. These can be moves, coins and money, jewels, and things like that. You can then go to the shop where you can buy cool new gadgets, like the distraction toy, or maybe you want to buy a new move for Bently, Murray, or Sly to use in the dead of night.

Gameplay rating: 9/10

Controls

The controls don't really differ from those of the original. They still have the same simplicity for anyone of any age to wrap their hands around and begin to understand easily.

SSX Tricky

Synopsis:

SSX came out of nowhere last year to become the PlayStation 2's flagship launch game. Its impressive graphics, addictive gameplay, and flair for all things cool convinced people who normally wouldn't give a snowboarding game a chance to take a risk. SSX Tricky was originally conceived to be an addendum to the original with new riders and reworked tracks, but as time wore on, it became apparent that it would be much more than that. And now that it's here, it's obvious that EA has managed to produce a game that improves upon the original in every way and provides enough new content to keep fans of the original from crying foul.

SSX Tricky is set one year after the original game, and two of the riders from the original SSX have taken a sabbatical, only to be replaced by a stable of five young guns with even more personality. The foundation of the game remains as the world circuit, in which you must compete against six other riders in circuits composed of three runs down the same hill. As you win bronze, silver, or gold medals in each circuit, new tracks and boards are unlocked and attribute points are awarded to enhance the abilities of your rider. Unlike in last year's game, in which the third and final race in each circuit was much more difficult than the prior two, the AI has been refined so that the difficulty for each race gradually builds to a crescendo for the final run. The showoff mode has returned from last year's world circuit, and once again, you must make a run down the hill by yourself in hopes of amassing enough trick points to win medals. In SSX, you could max out your rider's attributes simply by competing in races, but in Tricky, you'll have to complete the showoff mode as well if you want to get the most from your character. If you don't have time to dive into the world circuit, you can always choose the single-event option for some quick-hit fun. You can practice the runs included in the world circuit in the race option, polish your tricking skills in the showoff mode, or go head-to-head with a friend in the multiplayer option. SSX Tricky's game design is nearly identical to that of the original SSX, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

The biggest change to SSX Tricky is its trick system. Pulling off various grabs, flips, and spins is still accomplished by pressing combinations of the shoulder buttons and the directional pad, but when the adrenaline meter reaches the top, you have 20 seconds to perform one of each character's four uber tricks. The outlandish uber tricks come in a variety of forms, like performing breakdancing moves on top of the board or lying flat and spinning like a torpedo. Once an uber trick has been landed, you are awarded one letter toward spelling the word "tricky." When the entire word is complete, you receive a full turbo for the remainder of the race and the ability to pull off some of the game's impressive supertricks. The addition of the new trick system makes an already exciting game even more invigorating, and it forces you to look at the courses in a new way. Last year's SSX had a lot of personality, and EA has decided to up the ante in this regard. Before each race, the other competitors are rated as allies, enemies, or neutral. Enemies will attempt to take you down if given the chance, allies will warn you of impending danger or attempt to shield you from attacks, and neutral riders will go about their business with little regard for others on the course. How you treat other riders affects their ratings for future races, so if you anger too many competitors by attacking them, it's going to be difficult to make it down the hill in one piece later on.

The original SSX was the most visually impressive game available at the launch of the PlayStation 2, but this is one area of SSX Tricky that seems to have been only minimally improved. Texture clarity has been bumped up, and there is liberal use of volumetric fog in several courses, but most will have a hard time seeing the improvements. With that said, SSX Tricky looks great. There is no draw-in, the particle effects used for snow are some of the most impressive on the platform, and the courses are absolutely huge. Seven of the courses have returned from the original SSX, but only their names and texture sets have been replicated. Dozens of new shortcuts have been added to each course, and their layouts have been so drastically altered that they feel entirely new. EA has also added two completely new tracks, including Alaska--a vertical run that provides some of the biggest air in the game--and Garibaldi--a nice but relatively short course for beginners. The tracks and special effects may look great, but the real star of the SSX Tricky show is the animation. Regardless of whether you're pulling a simple method or one of the game's astounding supermoves, the riders animate with a fluidity that few sports games can match. It goes a long way toward making what are impossible moves look not only good, but also plausible in the real world. Cinematics weren't a big part of the first SSX, but that has changed for Tricky. In between races, short cinematics will show riders interacting with one another based upon their aggression ratings. If you've angered someone out on the course, you can bet you will hear about it later, and if you're in close competition with one of the other riders, expect some serious smack talking to ensue. Frame rate dropouts were an issue in last year's game, and the same problem rears its ugly head in Tricky as well. It's not enough to significantly detract from the gameplay, but it's still worthy of mention. SSX Tricky may not be a drastic improvement upon the original where graphics are concerned, but when the bar has already been set so high, one can only expect so much.

GameSpot handed SSX the award for best sound last year, and EA seems intent on defending its crown. A gaggle of celebrity voice talent, including that of Lucy Liu, Macy Gray, and David Arquette, is included in SSX Tricky. It doesn't make much of a difference, really, as the voice acting in the original game was just fine, but it's good to see that the developers have attempted to improve upon a part of the game that has already received unanimous praise. Mixmaster Mike of the Beastie Boys handled the music for the game, and again, it's excellent. The tempo of each track being played will change depending upon the action onscreen, and scratches are thrown into the mix after especially impressive tricks are stomped. Loops from Run DMC's title track are heard when you land an uber trick or when your adrenaline meter reaches its hilt, and the pitch is adjusted on the fly so that it matches the beat of the song being played. Several of the songs from the first SSX have returned for an encore, so you can expect the same breakbeat-influenced tunes.

More than just an upgrade of the original, SSX Tricky is the best snowboarding game ever made. EA Sports Big has proven that it's not afraid to break new ground and that resting on its laurels is not an option. The trick system has been vastly improved, the graphics have received a slight upgrade, the story elements have increased significantly, and the sound is as solid as ever. If you were a fan of last year's game, SSX Tricky adds enough new elements to the mix to make it worth a look. If you have yet to play SSX and are interested in this sort of game, buying SSX Tricky is highly recommended.

Gameplay:

The game is really simply to play, I honestly loved it. The controls are also easy to learn. You could easily finish it with one character, but might take a bit of time with all of the characters to finish it the game 100%.

Quality:

The quality of the graphics aren't the best, kinda cartoon-ish. The game was made in 2001 so you wouldn't expect the greatest graphics. The quality of the graphics are still fine enough to play the game without any problems. I found no problems with the graphics.

About the game:

I found SSX Tricky a very enjoyable game. I played it when I was younger on original Xbox with my Mother.

I loved building up the words 'tricky'. You do special tricks (as I forget the name) and build up the word tricky, whenever you build up the word you get unlimited boost and it plays It's Tricky.

Not the full song, but long enough. I usually played as Kaori. I don't know why, but I liked playing as her.

xLeftyx wrote I'm not going to beat around the bush. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is the single best PlayStation 2 title I have ever played. It's larger than the biggest RPG, has more story than the heftiest adventure game, and has almost as many mini-games as Nintendo's Mario Party. Additionally, it has a production value that's second to none, boasts a faithfulness to '90s source material with an eerie accuracy, and provides more hours of entertainment than all the previous Grand Theft Autos combined. In short, it's a terrific unending masterpiece of a game -- and one that will never fall victim to an over-exaggeration of its lofty status. It's the defining piece of software for Sony's successful sophomore system, and it's almost impossible to imagine a PlayStation 2 library without it.

Now I realize that with a statement like that, I leave a lot of expectations on the table. Immediate questions from longtime GTA players (and haters) will no doubt surface regarding what kind of problems San Andreas must have. Does the framerate still stutter? Is pop-in and draw distance still an issue? Are there any collision quandaries or other graphics-related bugs? Are the sound effects still tame by other action game standards? Does the AI ever have stupid moments or not perform the way you'd want it to? And is it true that there's absolutely no form of online play whatsoever? To be honest, the answer to all those questions is a definite yes. But an even better question to ask (and one that has a lot more direct impact) is, "Do any of the issues explored above really detract from the overall experience?" In a word: No.

But how is that possible? Isn't that a significant number of concerns for one game to handle? Sure it may sound like the case when clumped together like that, but in practice it's almost completely unnoticeable. For starters, the frequencies at which the graphical hitches mentioned above appear in comparison to when they don't is so lopsided, that I'm left unaffected. Additionally, there's literally so much to experience in the single player game that the lack of online play isn't missed in the least, while the minor sound effect kinks and other presentational issues get completely dwarfed by everything else that the game manages to do right.

The big curiosity, of course, is just what is it that San Andreas does so right in the first place? After all, IGN and every other videogame publication on the planet have been sworn to secrecy since first getting our hands on the game late last week. And while it's true that we've told you all about the different kinds of features that Rockstar had plans to implement by release day, nobody's talked about how those features actually felt. Even more importantly, though, no one has mentioned the number one reason that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is so amazing to begin with: it's the first game I can ever remember that asks its players to wonder "What can't you do" as opposed to "What can you?"

Johnson N The Hood
The storyline of San Andreas should feel somewhat familiar to fans of 1990s cinema. Borrowing rather heavily from John Singleton, Spike Lee, and Ernest **** pictures, this iteration of Grand Theft Auto is all about the thug life when it was still in its infancy. Following the exploits of young Carl Johnson, the game begins as CJ returns from exile in Liberty City after learning that his mother's been killed via unknown circumstances. CJ feels pretty torn about coming back too, as he originally left Los Santos five years ago when his younger brother Brian was mercilessly gunned down. Nevertheless, family's family and Carl returns home to San Andreas to pay his respects.

Video Review A world as big as GTA: San Andreas deserves to be seen. In this sweeping 14-minute video review, IGNPS2's Jeremy Dunham and IGN Guides' Chris Carle, give their final take on the game after many, many hours of play. With tons of direct-feed, no story spoilers, and explicit content, this is something interested adult fans have to check out.
Download It Now

Within seconds of arriving in Los Santos, however, CJ is met by two bastardly police officers: Frank Tenpenny and Eddie Polaski. Rotten to the core, the pair of crooked officers robs Carl of all his money, frames him for the death of a cop that's on to their schemes, and tosses him into the middle of enemy gang territory. Weaponless and outnumbered, CJ is forced to run back to his old neighborhood in an effort to survive. Once resolved, things really begin to take off, and players will meet a huge assortment of characters in a short period of time. CJ's older brother Sweet, his sister Kendl and her boyfriend Caesar, Carl's friends Big Smoke and Ryder, and a massive gallery of supporting personalities all weave an intricate plot that's easily among the best storylines this year.

SSX 3

[ Register or Signin to view external links. ]

Release Date: October 20, 2003
Developers: EA Canada
Publishers: EA Sports BIG
Platforms: PlayStation 2, GameCube, Xbox, Game Boy Advance, Gizmondo
Genre: Racing (Snowboarding Game)
Players: Elise, Kaori, Mac, Moby, Psymon, Zoe, Allegra, Griff, Nate, Viggo
Rating: E For Everyone

Synopsis:

The thrill of purposely flinging oneself down a mountainside is captured like never before in SSX 3, the third entry in the popular snowboarding series that originally debuted on the PlayStation 2 in 2000. While SSX 3 doesn't fundamentally change the series' signature gameplay, which combines near-vertical downhill racing with a completely over-the-top trick system, it does change the structure of the game by offering a freeform, open-ended environment to experience, compete in, and explore. This huge, fully realized snow-covered mountain provides some incredible scenery and no shortage of high-speed entertainment. Fans of SSX should have expected as much, though this is a game that is highly recommended not only for veterans but for novices.

As in previous SSX games, in SSX 3, your trek to become the fastest, flashiest snowboarder begins with your choosing a persona from the game's cast of young, smart-alecky hipsters. Fans will recognize most of the cast right off the bat, though there are a few new faces as well. It doesn't really matter who you choose, though. Aside from some cosmetic variety in their respective arsenals of trick moves, each character begins with rock-bottom ratings in stats like acceleration, tricks, speed, and stability. These ratings are strictly relative, though. Immediately in SSX 3, you're capable of some impressive stunts and surprising speeds.

Quality:

I have to say the game quality is not the best. But, gladly it is better than SSX Tricky. As SSX 3 came out in 2003 it is not going to have the best graphics along with SSX Tricky. I can say the graphic quality in SSX 3 has improved a lot compared to SSX Tricky though. The quality in this game was very realistic unlike SSX Tricky. I like realistic quality. I'd say that the quality looked very nice and clean.

What I think about the game:

I like this game, I still followed up with playing with Kaori like in SSX Tricky. If I didn't play with Kaori I believe I played with Griff.

I think that SSX Tricky was a better game than SSX 3, but I'm sure many disagree with me. The game quality in SSX Tricky was worse than SSX 3 but it doesn't bother me much. I enjoy playing SSX Tricky more.

Whenever I played this game I played it on original Xbox. I still have the game. It is the only one I have left, I still play it from time to time. I encourage anyone to get this game. It is a very nice game and it is very fun to play.

Here is a match on this game:
