Okay so about like two months back someone did something to a computer were I work. Now for what ever reason if you try to update AVG, Java, anything that needs and internet connection, or even try to log on to AOL. (Yeah I know AOL a bit old school right? Well so are the people I work with hahaha) Anyways, I have tried a few things and none have worked. So I figured I would come here and ask you guys for assistance, who ever can help me and get it running again I will give +rep and $5, award after the problem is fixed.

It is an old school computer and is not very good.

eMachines
W3400
AMD Athlon 64 Processor
3000+
1.99 GHz, 1.37 GB of RAM
Microsoft Windows XP
Home Edition Version 2002
Service Pack 3

Hello ,

The only things i could say is to check the windows update application and check there may be important updates needed. Or if you have a back up or factory setting CD then use that and take the computer to factory settings then it may work.

Thanks, Hope this helps

Well even Windows Updates we cannot do, that was the first thing I checked. As for restoring to factory or reimaging, that is a last resort because we would have to sort through the computer and find all the files and what not that we need to keep. I was kinda hoping there is an easier way of fixing it rather than restoring it. But if it comes down to that you will be the one that get the money and Rep.

Also try downloading malware bytes or doing a scan of your Anti-virus if you can access the internet as it could be a malware problem blocking inncoming network requests or updates.

Come back to me if this doesnt work either and i will try and work it out again.

Hope it helps

Im just pulling at threads now but are you on a LAN connection or WLAN connection?

Because it could be your network card blocking something. have you checked the blocked things in the firewall section of control panel?

Come back to me.

It is just connected to a router, it is a small business and there are only 2 computers hooked to a 2Wire router/modem, but one of the computers that is hooked to the router is wireless, and that one has no problem downloading and updating things, so I have pretty much narrowed it down to something on this computer. Even things that need internet access to install or run will not run, but Firefox will connect to the internet, but it still cannot download or update anything, like even Java or anything like that. Here is another thing, I was looking for Internet Explorer and that is not even here, like someone deleted it, so maybe they could have also deleted something that is needed from it?

Yeah it might have deleted vital network files. Try transfering some files you need from the other computer E.G. anti-virus database files. Then try the scan again also find the drivers you need on the other computer and transfer them to your computer this may solve the problem through the drivers being needed.
