Synopsis

The story begins as James Bond (007) and Alec Trevelyan (006) (Elliot Cowan) are on a mission infiltrating a chemical weapons facility in Arkhangelsk, Russia, which is believed to be the source of weapons used by a terrorist cell to target British embassies around the world. The mission goes awry when Trevelyan is caught and apparently shot by General Ourumov (Laurence Possa). Bond escapes by detonating explosives he had placed throughout the facility before stealing a motorcycle and chasing a plane over the edge of a cliff, fleeing Arkhangelsk.

Later, a phone call intercepted from Ourumov connects him to Russian gangster Valentin Zukovsky (Alec Newman) as Ourumov attempts to acquire a helicopter that has been modified to survive an electromagnetic pulse. Bond travels to Barcelona, and through a local agent placed inside Zukovsky's nightclub, Bond is able to make contact with the Russian and enquires about the helicopter. Zukovsky directs him to an arms fair in Dubai before being killed by Xenia Onatopp (Kate Magowan), disguised as a waitress in Zukovsky's club.

Story

Not played any bond games before I wondered if I would not understand the plot and what is going on and how it would impact my entertainment of the game. But as I started the campaign it was completely unique and didn't refer anything to previous James Bond games which really enhanced my destiny to complete the game. The story is based on the James bond golden eye film but is rewritten in the view of the new bond star 'Daniel Craig' The subtle differences are bond fans will definitely recognise this. The single-player campaign stretches on for more than 10 hours, and a good deal of variety stops any chance of repetition ruining your enjoyment. Some levels are designed with stealth in mind while others force combat to the frontline, but you ultimately have the choice in how you play.

Gameplay

As skillful as the story is told, it's really the gameplay that's king in GoldenEye 007. Once again, the GoldenEye experience has been massively changed, this time with the upgrade in action other than being a first-person shooter, this game bears little resemblance to the Nintendo 64 design. It's pretty clear that Eurocom looked at the current generation for inspiration, namely the Call of Duty and Halo franchises, so GoldenEye has been updated to appeal to today's gamer than those latched onto dated decade-and-a-half gameplay. The original game on the N64 for pretty much the best FPS out, obviously there was no COD, The wii version retained that original spirit. This version is pretty different to the original, missions and maps may feel similar but remember they are based on the same film. As i said before there are stealth missions and full on war missions which is really really fun. Like the old games your health doesn't heal itself you will have to go and find that health! The game also has a huge focus and multiplayer and really shows it.

Graphics

I was really surprised, remember guys this was a N64 game so the graphics won't be BF3 style, but for this type of game the textures and interface is superb! The game features destructible environments like BF which is quite fun and adds to the realism of bond. They also have included snow and rain in certain missions which really hypes you up instead of playing in the hot sun all the time. The graphics sometimes mess up during missions due to the insanity of the mission. Some shadows on the enemy are also distort and randomly placed. But the fire and bullet sprays are good looking for a game of this style. It gets a great mark from me.

Controls

I think that Activision has been pushing heavily for gamers to recognize the games massive support for the Classic Controllers. This is to attract those that have been FPS gaming on an Xbox or DualShock controller (CoD & BF), so if you find yourself able to aim and shoot using dual analog controllers which is quite interesting, you can get that experience and excel in the gae. The Classic Controller does lack the analog triggers on the shoulder, which is quite annoying, but for the most part if you're schooled in the HD console's FPS games.
