1.if i jailbreak it could it possibly mess up the phone? There is a chance. Never happens though.
2.if i jailbreak it and something goes wrong can i restore it and send it to apple without them knowing i jailbroke it? Yes. Restore it and you are fine.
3.is it worth it? Of course. Free apps, themes, color keyboard, cool affects for your
Phone.

I have a iPhone it doesnt mess up unless you do one step wrong but you can fix it by holding top bottom And home button until it shows apple sign I jail broke mine its good but the only problem is that it's really slow

I would say that an iphone 4 is a lot easier to jailbreak than ipod touch, and you can get all different operation systems, my friend has adroid iphone xD its truly amazing when you can get everything for free! give it a go and restore it if its not for you :-)
