Not necessarily. From a standpoint of a greater power, (religion), the Lord/God/whatever must've placed a chicken on earth as opposed to the egg, because..

*The egg needs time to hatch, and must be taken care of. IF there's no chicken, there's no care.
*He probably wanted animals that were ready to do work right away


So I believe that it is possible that the egg came first, if you're not religious. I, myself, am an Atheist, but ehh...

The egg came first, The parents of the egg arent necessarily chickens, if 2 species happen to mate it will create something new right?
If an interacial couple make a baby, the baby is half-cast right? Obviously not a new species but the orincipal applies.
