Okay so i have a Xbox 360 Slim (Halo Reach Edition Sept 2010) and it had trouble reading discs. I'd have to bang it on the side to get it to start reading my discs (otherwise it would just say open tray.) Yesterday, it wouldn't read any discs. I opened it up (warranty was gone since last year) and now i'm having a problem. There are 2 cables that connect to the disc drive. One of them is red with a black tip, (similar to most hard drive cables, SATA i think?) and the other is a white rectangle with 2 rows of pins on it. It has orange and blue cables coming off it (if that matters.)

Problem is, when i connect the WHITE cable, my xbox gets the red dot on the power button, and orange dot on the power brick. It won't even boot up (just immediately goes to red dot.) But, when i disconnect the white cable, the xbox boots up, but keeps attempting to open the disc drive, which it can not (i assume the white cable sends the code to open the drive)

So, basically i'd like help. I was told a new console would be purchased for me as a birthday gift, but who knows how long that will be. I'd like to repair this one, (especially since i have all the halo reach accessories to go with it, and i like the special FX)

I'd need someone to help me, and this would be a great help. If you can help, please post here or if you want me to try something.

No, this xbox has NOT been modded in anyway, but the dvd drive was opened to get rid of a loose plastic part (just a thin cylinder, was to hold the outer case in place, if i'm right, since there was 2.)

Can anyone help me fix the problem, or at least give me a general idea of what is wrong? If necessary, i can open Skype and show you my xbox.

It may be time to sell that Xbox to Game or some other game retailer hoping they do not test it and then go and buy a second hand Xbox, or a new one if you don't plan on getting the 720 next year.

1. I do not, Microsoft gave me a 1 year warranty now, instead of the defaulted 3 year i got with all my other box's.
2. I banged on it because it was the only way i could get it to read discs. I wouldn't just bang on it if it didn't accomplish anything.

Can't open it, unless you are talking about forcing it open while it is disconnected.

If i connect the cable that opens the disc tray with the eject button, it red dots.
