Synopsis;

Mortal Kombat: Deception is a fighting game developed and published by Midway as the sixth installment for the Mortal Kombat (MK) series.
Deception follows the storyline from the fifth installment, Deadly Alliance. The story centers on the revival of the Dragon King Onaga, who attempts to conquer the realms featured in the series after defeating the sorcerers Quan Chi and Shang Tsung, the main antagonists in the previous game, and the Thunder God Raiden, defender from Earthrealm. As such, the surviving warriors from the previous titles join forces to confront Onaga.
Twenty-six characters are available to play in the game, with nine making their first appearance in the series. Deception contains several new features in the series, such as chess and puzzle games with the MK characters and an online mode. The Konquest Mode role-playing game (RPG) makes a return from Deadly Alliance, but follows the life of Shujinko, a warrior who is deceived by Onaga to search for artifacts to give Onaga more powers.

Genre: Fighting
Players: 1-2 (Online or Split-screen)

My Rating: 9/10

Plot;
The plot for Mortal Kombat Deception is very unique in my opinion, within the game you can follow on the story in a short manner where as you continue to follow on from the beginning clip where the 3 sorcerers are fighting the Dragon King whom is also known as Onaga.
The other way to continue the Mortal Kombat series it to play the konquest mode where you play as a rookie warrior named Shujinko trained to be a warrior by Master Bo Rai Cho whos quest is to basically do arcade mode but extended which also allows you to meet up with other characters in the game to learn or do missions for them, doing so will give you krpyt points.

Graphics;
The graphics on Mortal Kombat are mainly focused on the characters as always as it is a fighting game but they have really pulled it off, the scenery looks very good for a PS2 game let alone the fact that in konquest mode the graphics get even better you explore a whole world in such greatly defined graphics.
I am really impressed with what has been done in this game there is a great amount of effort and detail put into this game although some things may seem a bit rough this is better than your average PS2 Game.
My rating 9.5/10

Arcade Mode;
This can be as simple as you want, you simply choose a character and make it to the top finish it and you gain krypt coins, to make it more enjoyable there are special weapons placed amongst the map not forgetting that the scenery can also be used as your weapon by pushing them off the edge or into a grinder. Arcade mode is like skipping the storyline you fight the dragon king at the end and once you kill him thats it, I suggest finishing konquest mode first so you already know what the outcome is at the end also konquest is better for getting krypt coins.

Konquest Mode;
This is the main story of the game, this game mode allows you to follow on the series of mortal kombat as a warrior named Shujinko whos quest it to be a warrior and save Earthrealm by defeating Earthrealms threat the Dragon King, on the way of your quest you will see some familiar faces who either try and stop you or assist you on your journey by teaching you new moves or aid you in your quest to save Earthrealm.

Chess Mode;
This is a very simple yet fun game mode very basic rules apply but turned gory.
Rookies have the least health, and Kings have the most.
You are allowed to set fake and reals traps amongst the map before starting, Ive never got the trick of this but knowing my luck its rare for a trap to be set off.

You also get the ability to choose which character has the role to be each of the chess pieces and you also get the ability with the sorcerer (bishop) to resurrect, kill, protect and many more magical skills.
Once your piece attacks another you engage combat mode, where you fight them in a normal 1v1 fight with the health bonus your characters role grants, so it can still be anyones fight.

Puzzle Mode;
This mode is another fun game mode added where you play something along the lines of tetris where you have to fill a line to get some points, well get more points and you will eventually fill up your special bar which can be anything from destroying some of yours, freezing the enemies or even adding more to the opponents pile.
Every character has their own unique ability so this you can explore every character and see who suits you the best.

Krypt;

The krypt is a place where you spend all of your hard earned coins, certain tomb stones has certain unlocks but the twist is that some of them require certain coins, but dont worry as you get all of them coins as you play its just saving enough up to get something good out of it.
The unlocks available range from Scrapbook art, music, costumes for characters of even hidden characters such as Jade or Kenshi. (But be warned these cost a lot)

Controls;
The controls in this game are really complex so I would suggest if you new to the game play training mode first!
Obviously there are the basic kicks and punches but say you want to use Scorpions awesome Chain or Sub-Zeros ice ball it requires you to actual put some effort into it instead of button mashing, a common basic combo would be like X, X, Y which would be punch, punch and a final kick but a more harder combo which you will have to use frequently will be Down, Left X which could be Zub-Zeros ice ball attack, it may seem easy for most but this requires you to do this smoothly without rushing a hail of ice at your opponent.
Just a heads up Once you progress through Konquest mode to finish your training Bo Rai Cho will ask you to do a 10 button combo twice you will not be able to continue until you have mastered this combo and this gets very frustrating as this not happens occasionally when you meet someone who will teach you a new move.

To conclude my review this is a must buy for any Mortal Kombat fan, every Mortal Kombat will follow on the campaign from the previous one so be sure to catch up on it.
Just be warned most letters are replaced that start with C are replaced with K
