Release Date: October 7, 2009
Developers: Doublesix, Xbox Live Productions, South Park Digital Studios
Publishers: Microsoft Game Studios
Platforms: Xbox 360
Genre: Tower defense, Action
Players: Single-player, Multiplayer
Rating: M (Mature)
Synopsis:
The story goes like this: South Park is being invaded by hordes of evil minions at the direction of some great unknown evil. The boys made famous by Comedy Central and a few of their friends are the only ones that can save the town. There isn't any new original storyline here, aside from that superficial excuse for the group to travel from one location to the next. Instead, South Park Let's Go Tower Defense Play! relies on reliving memorable moments and sound bites to get the player excited. As one moves through the 11 stages and handful of challenge levels, brief clips from the television show and new playable characters are unlocked.
Story:
In the story you start out with Stan at his house defending the other side of the map from ginger kids. Then as you work your way through stand neighborhood you move on to Kenny's neighbor hood and eventually to places featured all around south park. The goal of the story is to find out who is trying to destroy south park. You unlock tons characters from the show who each have their special moves/attacks and phrases. The whole story is narrated by this obnoxious Asian man who made me laugh a lot while I played. The story can get kind of repetitive though, not a big chance for multiple play-throughs.
Story Rating: 8/10
Multi-player:
Multi-player is hands down the best thing in the game. In the multi-player you and up to 3 other friends can play through any campaign level or arcade level together. This is key to beating most levels on harder difficulties. Sometimes it seems like its necessary for you to get a good score. If your thinking about buying this game I strongly suggest you find a friend who will buy it and beat it with you. If you do not have any friends... you can try finding other players through the find game option.
Gameplay:
The gameplay is very similar to many tower defense genre games. Basically enemies come from one side of the map and try to get to the other. Your goal is to wipe out as much as you can if not all. To do this you build turrets and launchers all around the paths they follow. In the later levels they do not have a path so you will most likely have to build one. Once your out of money the only way to get more is killing enemies. To do this yourself you throw snowballs at them, if you hold down the throwing button the snowball will increase in size and turn yellow making it cause more damage. This is extremely helpful when facing bosses.
Gameplay Rating: 9/10
Graphics:
The graphics are all from the show, They look like solid shapes moving around. Not much to say about them other then they are all drawn cartoons. They move easily and I have not seen one bug in the game. The characters voices are all voiced by the real actors so no one sounds fake. I think if they would of tried to make the characters 3D the game would of came out really bad. That is all their really is to the graphics.
Graphics Rating: 7/10
Examples:
Controls:
The controls are very simple and easy to learn. All you basically do is move around, place turrets and throw snowballs. I thought the controls were perfect for this type of game and you should have no problem at all getting used to them. After playing for a bit you should be able to lay down a walled path in a matter of seconds.
Controls Rating: 9/10
Overall Rating: 7.5/10 (Fun tower defense game, gets repetitive fast. Not a big chance for multiple playthroughs and alright graphics.)
