Here 35 =7 x 5 and (7 - 5) = 2
Now,
x^2 +7x -5x - 35
=x(x + 7) - 5(x + 7)
=(x + 7)(x - 5)

Now come to the solution:
x*x + 2x - 35 = 0
=>(x + 7)(x - 5) = 0
=>(x + 7) = 0 or (x - 5) = 0
=> x = - 7 or x =5

Solutions: x = 5, - 7<==ANSWER

Check:
when x = 5
L.H.S = (5)^2 + 2*5 - 35 = 25 + 10 - 35 = 35 - 35 = 0 = R.H.S

again when x= - 7
L.H.S = (- 7)^2 + 2(- 7) - 35 = 49 - 14 - 35 = 49 - 49 = 0 = R.H.S

You add all the x's together: 4x - 35 = 0, then you flip the 35 to make it positive, 4x = 35, 35 divided into 4 equals 8.75, x = 8.75.
