Personally no, now a days people are looking for 'good' graphics and to be fair there are only a few users on the site that can pull it off e.g Blaze Dis and Zekrom.
By looking at your work some of it is really simple, i saw one with a M40A3 with some text and a green background anyone could make that in seconds and it doesn't require skill.
But you can still get better at it

How can he get better at it without reopening Photoshop? You've contradicted yourself.
Anyway, OT: Try having another go at it, following through on some proper graphic tutorials.
Personally I wouldn't recommend doing avatars, banners and small things. I'd do web-design, YouTube backgrounds, desktop backgrounds and manipulations. All of those come in handy, whilst doing avatars for forums isn't really going to get you anywhere.
Good luck!
