Put simply, Beats suck. (No, don't you dare use the "You can't afford them" card. I have around 45 different headphones with a value totalling about $4000. If Beats were worth anything, I'd have bought a pair, but they're among the worst headphones in price to performance ever. If you want a bassy headphone that looks cool, buy a V-Moda Crossfade or M80 (the latter is better.) If you don't mind looks and just want sheer bass, you can get the Audio Technica Pro700MkII. (The Anniversary Edition looks pretty sweet though and sells for about $230.)
Bose is almost as bad of a value, but they don't make me cringe as much as Beats when I use them.
