Lasekx wrote Honestly i'm not surprised first thing i saw once i opened up the music forum is Dubstep

To be completely honest I'm not a big dubstep fan nor really fan of "club" music, neither can i stand rap or all that hip hop gibberish. Me I'm more simplistic i like music from the 90's, i like lesser known bands, i like rock, indie, metal, pretty much everything. More then likely some people are going to criticise me saying how i know nothing about music? that's fine, but when i ask a kid what his favourite genre is and he says skrillex that's completely different.

What i'd like to say though is that skrillex, and all his fellow "dubsteppers" are just a phase that people are going through, and it's really a phase i don't get. Like allover musicians are propping up and straying away from instruments like guitars, basses, etc. everyday which is killing music ever so much each day.

Now to be completely honest hate on me all you want, but i love metalcore, i love screamo, and i love emo bands. Though i'm not "emo" nor am i "scene" I'm just your regular run of the mill teen trying to cope with life's hardships.

Now i'm not saying that if you listen to a different genre then me, your wrong. No i'm saying that music nowadays will ruin the future careers of musicians, and as well as ruin society( Don't judge me, look at the influence of rap & other genres ).

I'm not planning on starting any fights on which music is better, but i do plan on starting a heated discussion of today's music. :nyancat:

Too many mainstream artists these days is what is ruining music.

I actually completely respect your opinion because of the fact that you just simply stated it and didn't flame.

Personally I like dubstep and the electronic music scene. When it comes down to it, basically this is just music composition on a whole new level. Dubstep does take talent to make because of the fact that you do have to have some sort of musical background to know how which notes to input and how to make background melodies match the main one. I personally played the piano for 4 years and I make dubstep music. I can make melodies easy and I can make them flow smooth because of my background in music.

My answer on your question is that music is reaching a new age. You may not have known this but dubstep has been around since 1998 and it has just started getting popular in the recent years. Just look at what music started as, drums and singing. It has evolved since then to instruments, then whole groups, and so on and electronic music is just that next evolution.

Thats just my opinion.

Some are especially weak and conform to what's currently popular, which happens to be the rap/hip hop counterculture. It's not necessarily the music's fault at all, it's how people interpret it and influence others.

i agree, but when you have artists such as Lil Wayne and others rapping about how they F****d some girl or how they sold/smoke a bunch of drugs it tends to convolute the poetics and meaningfulness of the song and rap itself. Like if i remember correctly when rap was first introduced to North America as well as UE it was a form of poetry, now look at it.

Currently raps portrayed so vulgarly as well as brutish. I'm not saying all rappers add to this portrait, But the majority does. Like take Eminem for instance, his songs "When I'm gone & The way I am" Helped me get through some pretty tough times a few years ago, and to be completely honest I really respect marshal. Though some of his songs I don't really feel the same way about like "insane" from his tape relapse -

"The b*****d won't even eat nothing he's fed up He just hung himself in the bedroom he's dead, Debbie don't let that f****r get you upset, Go in there, stick a f***ing' cigarette to his neck I bet you he's fakin' it, I bet you I bet he probably just wants to see how upset you would get I'll go handle this of course, unless you object, Ah go f*** his brains out, if any's left in his head"

Its music like that, in my mind that is adding to our ever convoluted society. I couldn't agree any more with you, that teens are sponges and we soak up our surrounding. We aren't mentally developed as we should be and we do crave a sense of belonging. But as you did say teens do soak up their surrounding's which means to me, if they listened to a certain type of genre(IE- Dubstep, with its crazy party and rave scene). Kids as well as teens are going to thinks it okay to take drugs, dress inappropriately, Have sex at a young age, resort to violence, as well as other things. Like for instance, I'm from Vancouver. Not to long ago we had a group of girls that had taken E to lose weight because girls from raves were taking it. The police reports ( I'll see if I could find the link if you'd like) stated that the girls that gave the other girls the drugs had taken and as well as bought them to add to their "rave experience". It's quite sad actually because a few of the girls that had taken the drug to loose weight, overdosed and passed away. I knew one of them quite well she was a childhood friend of mine but we ended up straying away from each other (different tastes and stuff).

Haha I agree mate, I've run out of disc space many a time because of music. That's why i've started to invest in CD's Me as well I've binging on some uk harcore bands as well as some aussy bands for the past few weeks

Well yes, Lil' Wayne is pretty much one of the most annoying people I can think of (along with Nicki Minaj...ick) He's popular because he happens to conform with modern times though, which is unfortunate. He's talking about what teens want to hear ("Well I heard it in a song...it MUST be okay!") and that means a lot to record labels.

The weird thing about society is that we really can't gauge just how bad we are since we've only been teens in one generation. For all we know, the 80's could have been way worse, same with the 60's and 40's.

I've gotten into vinyl since that's the hipster way to go.

It's called changing trends. It will always happen and there will never be a way to stop it.

I used to listen to rock/metal and all that before, and now i listen to Dubstep A LOT (despite all of the children nowadays taking a sudden interest in it). But, that doesn't mean that i like it any more than I do rock/metal.

Just accept change man.

What has music become? Another way to talk nasty about each-other!

Rap is just another way to say I want to have sex with you?
Rock is just another way to say I like your butt!

Technically, the people who are "constantly screaming down the microphone" aren't the ones ruining music. Screaming takes talent, where-as the artists in the charts today talk into a microphone and have auto-tune do all the work for them. Now, using your common sense, who is ruining the music industry?
