Yeah it probably is. Many gold members do recomend it. Also the coloured names, signurtes and the gold forum is really cool.

Ya, I really need to change my name due to the fact that it is my old clan and gamertag, I have to change it to my new one, it's something that I can keep for years to come and still like it, but won't post it, don't want someone taking it

It really depends, it has a lot of features but many that you won't use. I got gold a year ago to change my name and to test it out, but i never downloaded anything or used the other features they offer.
