Hello members of TTG! Recently it was my birthday, and my birthday plan is to get as much money as possible and buy one large present for myself. This year I got $580 in total, and I was going to get a laptop. After talking with family and friends, they turned me the other way. Now I am on the fence about getting a laptop. I already have a great Desktop that my whole family uses (I built it), and it is very fast, with an I5 2500K and a GTX 550 Ti. Now, my family and friends told me that I already have a great Desktop, and that getting a laptop would only enable me to move around the house on the computer. Now I am stuck; I can't decide whether it's worth it. If I get the Laptop, it will be solely mine and I can do things on it that I can't on the desktop, such as Skype etc. If I don't get it, I will have a large amount of money laying around and if something else comes up, I will be able to purchase it. What should I do, TTG? Thanks everybody!

either save it or buy something decent!
your family&friends are right! there is no need in having a laptop

Obviously you've never seen a real wall of text.
Anyway OP, laptop sounds nice but if you think something else will come up in the future, go ahead and save it.
Option 3 is give it all to me. Your pick.

If you're 16, save up for a car or gas or something trust me.
If you're not, I'd buy a laptop and try to get an Avermedia capture card or a PVR.
