Honestly use Java I mean thats what I program with. Plus I'm going to university next year for computer science and its what they teach first year and then near the end they teach a little bit of C++. Also to create a calculator its not that hard the only hard part is actually creating the GUI. So I recommend looking at the newboston, as does everybody else. But I also want to say that if you want to really start hitting the ground running download the program netbeans because it's somewhat like VisualBasic in that it allows you to create Jlabels, JFrames, JButtons etc, extremely easily by dragging and placing on the screen instead of having to program it all in yourself. Also last thing I'm creating a game right now for my class for the end of the year and I've been programming in Java for two years and have an 89 Average in the course and I find it extremely hard to program a game since there are so many things you have to do, but if your ready for a challenge and an exciting adventure start with Java.
