Skullcandy is worth so much more than these man... They break so easily and they are over priced for the quality that you get...

They have good sound quality, but there durability is trash.
Sound quality is actually awful when compared to headphones in the same price range.
The Tour Mobiles have decent quality, but I got some 50$ Koss ear buds that are way better

...or genuinely think that Beats are atrocities. Using that logic, I can't afford a Can-Am Spyder, but I do know that I'd probably buy a lot of things before I'd buy a Spyder. I understand the merits of the Spyder, but if I'm going to have something that leaves me completely exposed, I'd go all out and buy a nice motorcycle with two wheels.
I don't really have to defend my point since Bankais graciously posted links for me, but seriously, the Pros, while rather pleasant to listen to, are one of the weirdest sounding headphones ever. Heck, even iBuds sounded more realistic. My issue with the Pros is that somehow, every single blessed frequency range is hyped up. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind extra of some things, but it's like (to use another analogy) an ice cream sundae. A lot of people like eating ice cream without any toppings on them. I'll compare these people to the people who use stock buds. Then there are people who add syrup. These can be the people that step up and buy something nicer, but more colored. Beats, of any sort, is an ice cream sundae with syrup, berries, sprinkles, caramel, graham crackers, and gummy worms. Is there a target audience for that? Sure, but claiming that it's the best thing ever would be stupid.
Oh, and for r00t_b33r, the people that are too obsessed with audio chew on ice.
Granted, that's a rather terrible analogy because a lot of audiophile equipment is colored as well, but it's at least done so tastefully, well, ideally.
Speaking of colored sound, my friend bought Pro 900s at my direction and they sound exactly like I thought they would. Glorious, but without a midrange. The best sound I've experienced to date.
No midrange? That's a shame. That'd be pretty hard to adjust to for me. Has he tried the Kees mod? I should probably return the Sony SA5000 I have on loan. It's kind of uncomfortable for me to have a headphone that costs twice the Detoxes for about a month without the owner complaining. I'm so buying one though. It starts to catch up on the HE500, except that it really only does a few genres right. The rest are kind of a mess.
Beatsbeatsbeatsbeats now on topic!
Too late! Thread derailed! It's headphone discussion anyway. Close enough.
They had a midrange, but the treble and bass were stars of the show. It's like the M50 signature, but the differences from neutral are amplified. That's probably why they sounded so familiar to me, I was used to that kind of V signature. Haha, and that would make me on edge too. My friend let me have his O2 for a few months because he had no use for it and I've had his HD 555s for... Who knows how long.
I'm looking at the Audeze LCD-2 paired with an ODAC and O2 because I can get the LCD-2 for way under retail and the Objective combo is great for the price. I need to quit yearning for an upgrade, and I think the LCD-2 will stop it. I'll probably accompany them with the Q701 for gaming and because it makes a good contrast.
But that's all talk.

So is Skullcandy... While the Aviators aren't terrible, now that the price of a lot of portable headphones seems to be felling, they're starting to look like a terrible deal. And I don't really trust their build. I haven't heard the Mix Masters, so I reserve my judgement of those, but everything else, save for the Pros which weren't that bad, are a worse deal than Beats.
And...Koss doesn't make very good IEM's haha. Well there's the KDX200/KDX300 and their more expensive siblings that are apparently decent, from other people's impressions. If even they're better than Beats, there's a bit of a problem. Koss is a great company, sometimes, but they're not the best at IEM's. I remember trying the Sparks or something and it was one of the worst sounding things I've ever heard, and I don't have an anti-Koss bias, to dispel that thought. I have four different Koss headphones lying around.

When the Omega 2 was priced at around $900 used, it was within the realm of affordability, but now...it's starting to be less attainable since there's a need to use money on/with, like, other people and stuff now that I'm a bit more social. The LCD-2 is really nice, but there's something about the ortho tech that I can't get over spending so much on. It might be that while the LCD-2 is amazing, I could buy like 6 older orthos and experiment with them in ways that I can't do with dynamics, which would be more fun than just having a really nice headphone, but I digress.
See, y'all? There's so much more beyond Beats.

That's what I'm worried about right now. The LCD-2 setup is expensive and that whole car thing... Nah. Better just buy more headphones. It's not like I actually do social things that often anyway. And I don't think it's a bad choice for me since the Q701 will fill in where it falls short (another headphone I can get for way under retail), like with soundstage/imaging for gaming. I've thought about the other headphones I could get with ~$700, but I don't think they'd be better than the LCD-2. If you think I'd be better off with the HE-500 or something else, tell me. I just don't know, but I'm ready to get out of this low-end rut.

The HE500 is the closest thing I can think of to a universal headphone, since there's really nothing that it doesn't do at least adequately from my experience. My problem with the LCD-2 is that everything I've read about it is that it's neutral, but with a dark bias, which bodes well with classical, jazz, and other music that's primarily used for relaxing, but rock or anything with a driving sound seems like it'd be iffy. Then again, you'd probably get some fort of Grado if you cared that much about rock or metal. The LCD-2 and Q701 seem like good compliments though. I didn't like the K701 as you know, but if the Q701 sounds less plasticky, that might be a little better, but I don't think it'd necessarily thrive with genres that the LCD-2 falls short on. My love affair with AKG has so far shown me that the people at AKG REALLY liked instrumental music, and not much else. The thing about the HE500 is that it's the closest thing I've come across to a "perfect" sound, but the little niggles drove me mad since it was so close to being everything I wanted. At the $900 it used to sell for, something so simple as a synthetic upper midrange shouldn't be a problem. Honestly, I'd probably go with the LCD-2 and Q701...and a Grado. Just an SR60, since you'd be modding it anyways.

That's kind of my problem. It sounds like I'd need a number of high-end headphones to cover all the bases. Drum & bass, classical, metal, rock, electronic, house, trance, classic rock, eventually jazz... And those are just parent genres. I need to fall in love with a headphone, but I can't demo any. Or can I?

Have you seen this? It was posted today and seems to be a pretty novel concept. I'd totally try the LCD-2 for ~$40 for two weeks.

There's actually a company close to me that's done something like that. I think it's Pacific Valve Audio. Their rates are astonishingly high though. A K701 costs about $60 to rent, last time I checked, which is a fourth of the actual price. I'd imagine that the cost ratio would be significantly lower for high end headphones though.
The Q701 would be able to cover jazz, classical (some forms), and electronic, if you care more about speed than bass impact. The LCD-2 would give you the bass you need, as well as be great with...the genres the Q701 works with. I'd actually suggest that you get a K500 since you're wanting soundstage. It's cheaper too, and arguably better than the K701. You'd be able to almost buy a used SR225 with the money you save, which would cover your rock genres.
The LCD-2 is really the closest thing I can think of to universal for your genres (the HE500 in electronica is probably inferior to the LCD-2 with rock. The HE500 did it okay, but...you could clearly tell that the HE500 wasn't made for it.) but really, if it were my money, I'd go with a ton of upper mid-fi headphones. My current plan is AD2000, HD650, W5000 or SA5000, and a transportable. With that, I have the rock/metal headphones (AD2000), dark headphones (HD650), and the bright, uber-detailed headphones (SA5000/W5000). Maybe an XB1000 for giggles. Used, the AD2000, HD650, and SA5000 amount to about the same as a new LCD-2 since they all average at $300 used, and I'd be a lot more entertained. When I compared the difference between the HE500 and my low-mid-fi headphones, the differences were really not worth the price of admission. Sure, the differences were basically night and day, but that's directly comparing. Now that I have an SA5000 in my hands, the differences are even more minimal. There's maybe a 5% improvement in tone with the HE500. That 5% is sooo not worth what could be two completely different headphones.
I feel like such a dork.

Who cares if he got beats. If he likes them and wants to keep them, then stop hatin. If you don't like beats don't buy them.
