I've been working on this as well, an alternative though. I am going to blast out a huge portion of the map, and level the bedrock by filling more bedrock in. From there, I will add lava and level that out (while using my invincible mod)

Then I'll simply build up in the sky, a skyblock. The 1x1 tower leading up will be detonated by pre-placed tnt, and it won't affect the island, the spawn.
