TopGun960 wrote I was speaking in generalities, but I do see your point. So the 6850 will perform admirably? I was going back and forth between the Hyper 212 and the antec 620 and I thank you for steering me in the right direction. If I use [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] <--- This I am assuming the extra gig of memory would make it an even better card? Also that mother board would overclock fine correct?
Yes, a 6850 would perform well in a large majority of games at a 1920 x 1080p resolution. The Hyper 212 is a better choice over the Antec 620, yes. No, it's a common misconception that having more RAM in general will = better performance...but that's not always true. Unless you're maxing out your vRAM or desktop RAM usage, you won't see any performance. That particular 6850 you listed is in 6870 territory. The only games that I know 100% will easily max out your vRAM is BF3 when you crank up the textures and AA but that should not pose as a problem in this build. The MSI Z77 G43 is a good board and will perform to your needs - it's just a P67 board with the Z77 chipset and was that ever a popular board - an alternative would be a Biostar TZ77XE3.

Alright... So I have basically redone all my selections. Im going with a i7 2600k, an Asus P8Z77-V Pro, 2 Radeon HD 6950 2GB (OC'd and unlocked will take about 250 watts each), and 32GB of 2133 mhz ram. Apparently this will all take upwards of 900 watts to power. Is that right?
P.S. I wont be buying the 2nd Graphics Card or the other 16GB of ram right away, but they will definitely be upgrades later. Thanks

2600k - Don't need it, get a 2500k
Mobo - A lot of money, may have useless features
GPUs - Good
RAM - No, 8GB is enough.

TopGun960 wrote Well sorry for the double post... but i found [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] PSU. Its 1000 watts and 80 plus certified. I am assuming this will do. Any suggestions? Thanks
NO. DO NOT put that thing anywhere near your system. It'll likely throw a fit with ripple and kill itself anywhere near its rated voltage. It's like this unit in that sense:
You also don't need that ridiculous wattage. 650 watts will handle pretty much any single-card system. This is a good option with good features:

Thanks, but as I said earlier, I plan on putting 2 cards on it eventually. With everything installed [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] <--- This says I will need 952 Watts. Is that completely off? Thanks.

Whoa... What's going on here... What are you using 15K RPM drives for? SSDs are the way to go 99.9% of the time these days. They'll take a lot more power and won't be as fast. Instead of 6970s, you'd be better off going for 7950s. Better power usage and performance all-around. You could run a system with two 7950s, as much RAM as you want, and CPU, a number of HDDs, and SSDs off a 750w unit easily. Those calculators are never really something to trust. The 7950 draws less than 180 watts under load.

Thanks for the response. A couple of things that Ill answer here. I am using 15000 RPM drives because I can get those for next to nothing. SSD are just too expensive right now for not much storage. Anyway, I can get 2 6970s for USD 220 verses 1 7950 for USD 350. Just not feasible right now. Also, (not sure if I previously mentioned this) I want to overclock both the CPU and the GPU. I found [ Register or Signin to view external links. ] website to help with OCing the GPU (which are actually 6950s). About 3/4 of the way down, you'll see that the overclocked/modded 6950s will take 252 watts each. So youre saying I can run all of this (overclocked and everything) on a 750 watt PSU? Thanks for the help!
