Just in case there's anyone here that doesn't know about this already...
The Bing Rewards program is one of the very few legitimate ways to get free Microsoft points. It is only available to people in the US right now (maybe more countries in the future?), and it does not offer the equivalent for PSN.
Using it is very simple. After signing up, simply navigate to the Discover page. There will be plenty of buttons labeled "Earn X Points" to click on. Many of their descriptions will suggest purchasing something, but this is never necessary. You need only visit the page to earn rewards points. These buttons are all one-time rewards, but there are some that can be earned over and over again.
Every day, you can do up to twenty searches to earn points (EDIT: search limit is currently forty; ends 6/30/12). These searches need not be anything special, but they must be unique ones. No searching "kittens" over and over again, but searching each letter of the alphabet in order works just fine. There will also be a "daily offer" that can be clicked on for another three points. From time to time, you'll be able to set your homepage and/or default search engine to Bing for a quick five points. You are more than welcome to change right back to your preferred homepage and search engine right afterwards.
EDIT: You can now earn an additional three points every day by posting searches to Facebook. You must link a Facebook account with your Bing Rewards account, then look along the right side of your search results for the option to make posts about your search. You are granted one Bing Reward point for each shared search and can do so three times each day. I imagine this makes your Facebook page look pretty spammy, but I believe you can delete the posts afterwards without incurring any loss of points. As someone who doesn't actually use Facebook, I don't really care enough to do so.
Redeeming your rewards is done very simply on the Redeem page. The code to collect your MS points will arrive through e-mail, and it will not take long. Mine arrived within the minute last time.
Enough instructions, though. You want the free MS points, yes? You'll be able to get a quick 100 MS in your first couple of days thanks to the one-time offers, so, if you're having doubts about this working, you should have your proof very quickly. After the first pack of 100 MS points, the rate will slow a bit. Assuming you put in the two minutes or so needed to get your daily points every day, you'll be getting at least thirteen points daily. A pack of 100 MS points costs 125 reward points, so you should be earning a new pack of 100 MS points about every ten days.
As you can see, it's not exactly a get-rich-quick scheme, but it's very easy to save up points for a free purchase. Most people use this as a way to get free DLC. I'm intending to grab Minecraft when it releases. At no cost. :-D
