the confusing thing is that my xbox 360 wired head set doesnt work either

i changed the voice settings back to headset and it still doesnt work

Few suggestions for you:
Restart Xbox
Try new controller
Unplug the entire headset and replug it
This happened to me and would never work, so I got the Astro A40
Best headset I have ever bought.
