Hiya people, Looking for some advice on fixing the RSOD (red screen of death) on a PS3.

Basically my mate told me he tried to delete some games off his HDD as it was full. Since doing that he has had the RSOD.

-I have gone into the secret menu and tried to restore the console (and tried every other option in there) but it just re-boots and goes bk to the RSOD. I have also tried a different HDD I had here spare and managed to Format it and got all the way through the 4.00 update (via USB) but again the console re-booted and went to RSOD...

-Have also tried setting the output ie HDMI but it just gives RSoD.

-Also tried a Reflow but that made no change.

-Tried just updating via USB with the latest FW from the official PS site but it gets to 39% the skips straight to 100% re-boots and RSoD.

-Tried taking the CMOS battery out and then putting it back after 30 mins and this didnt have any change for me.

-Tried booting without the CMOS battery and still get RSoD.

Can anyone shed any light on this for me????

I originally made this post a while ago, I have tried 4.20/4.21 but had no success, it just takes me back to the RSoD.

Thanks for your reply.

update the ps3 and take the hdd out when it gets to lets say 20% then leave it out. it will jump up and say something about some crap.

put the hdd back in and flash the hdd to 4.20

if you did it right, it WILL fix it
